Any news on how it went yesterday! Where have all the results gone? They seem a bit coy!

Re: Wood & Picket Info
Not sure who did this hatchback, but it's part of a set taken by John Ross (who died recently) at Speedwell, though the timing is out for the others in the set.

Worth looking at some of the other great photos from the '50s & 60s too.

Re: Wood & Picket Info
An interesting hatchback on a 1967/8 registered Mk2 with the size of the hinges suggesting it is a lighter version, glass fibre or maybe alloy, pickup hinges? The dashboard layout is similar to Radford's Mk2 with an enlarged row of dash panel switches above the original panel which was enlarged for fitting the radio. Enlarging the image reveals what looks like a 2 tone rectangular badge like Radford used. The door windows look like Tilling. Is it the car pictures in a London park which appeared on the web some time ago? Could it be the shell which was displayed at the Goodwood Revival a few years ago?

Looks like the photo might have been taken in a Mews somewhere Cliff, the reg' number is a London mark. Were those hinges common on Radford hatchbacks..?

Re: Wood & Picket Info
Thinking about the car more and the 67/68 registration plate it is possible that it was one of the first cars produced by HRC (1967) Ltd which acquired the original company in October 1967 after it went into administration. Eddie Collins left in 1966 I think and there was another salesman whose name I can't remember at the moment who I think operated from a mews premises in Mayfair area, close to Hyde Park where I think the earlier image was taken; next to the Serpentine?WMU 211G wrote:Looks like the photo might have been taken in a Mews somewhere Cliff, the reg' number is a London mark. Re: Wood & Picket Info
Looks like it was photographed outside Sprinzel's place (understandably), not a Radford way of hinging the hatch and looks like a Sprinzel badge on it. Mk2 998 Cooper?

Re: Wood & Picket Info
Perhaps the car was a development vehicle as I've just noticed it is a full hatchback to the boot lower aperture profile but the B registered car featured in CCC had a shorter hatchback and an upstanding, presumably for strength, as in the Elkins car shown at the Goodwood. The design of the roof where the hinges are attached does not look very strong especially without the rear gutter. I have read somewhere that Collins had no faith in hatchback conversions, maybe this is the vehicle which convinced him. I wish I could remember the name of the other guy involved in a Mews operation.
We now need Inspector Cluseau to investigate further! I do love a mystery and the power of the internet for finding historic pictures.

Re: Wood & Picket Info
Gerald Ronson purchased a few other Margraves. The other surviving car is a metallic brown GT. He bought it at the Earls Court Motor Show when it was that years show car. Same car is featured in that lovely BBC archive Blue Peter clip. Luckily it has a copy of it’s Park Royal “show car” build sheet & importantly still has it’s 12” SL mag wheels, they’re a hard find these days. Only seem to see 10” SL’s on eBay.

Re: Wood & Picket Info
Photo taken in 1970 by Tony Hall inside Wood & Pickett at Park Royal, West London
1969. Wood & Pickett, Mini Cooper - Tony Hall
"I drive over to Wood & Pickett with Lionel Hawkes in May 1969 to have a look around the workshops. In 1968 Wood & Pickett fitted a tinted rear window into my Mini Cooper. I had tinted perspex windows cut to size for the side windows by another company just up the road from Hammersmith Palais, in Shepherd's Bush Road, before driving to Rome with Roger Tidd. Here we are being shown how the body and engine of 'Margrave' Mini Cooper is re-built."
