Pete, I’ve a friend who sold a 100% complete matching numbers 1966 Island Blue Mk1 Cooper S car last week. Not only was it a complete original car, it had loads of history and all new panels required to complete the build. It also had the correct gearbox rebuilt by a specialist, the correct engine standard size bore and standard size EN40B crank.

It was an original North American car imported with all paperwork present and correct. When compared with that Surf Blue car, this was a very cheap car without question and good luck to the gentleman from Yorkshire who bought it

I honestly don’t know. I would love to see his progress with the build. He has got himself a nice project that when finished will be the real deal

The 62 Simon Drew surf blue cooper sold at SWVA for £21.5. As this is local i kept thinking i should take the day off and go, just it case it didnt reach 5 figures, i wish.

Couldn't agree more. We are known to be rather careful when parting with any dosh. However maybe the winning bidder knows more about this particular car than we think or maybe he has some personal interest in buying it.

It sounds a whole heap of cash, and it is! But many £45K top restored Ss don't have real provenance, most are reshelled anyway, many also seem to display brand new chassis plates and few original factory parts so this one will end up no worse than what's usually available to buy at the top end of the market. The bonus here is that the buyer will get all the old paperwork and history, he'll know exactly where it's come from and have a rare restored / rebodied car at the end of it for possibly not much more than buying one done. Try and find a restored Surf Blue Mk1 Cooper S 1275 with no issues! Try and find one for sale at all! If you look at it like that I reckon it was about £5K over the top in reality, hardly earth shattering. BUT I do realise that I'm in a minority with this, am waving the white flag and will concede defeat gracefully. . And NO I don't know who bought it Brian!

Lurking behind a Czech Tatra the crusty Mini at this November's Charterhouse auction (4/11/18) at the Bristol Restoration show was YJB626 - a 1961 Austin Seven with plenty of period modifications. Electric petrol pump moved from subframe to bulkhead, washer bottle replaced with what looked like a sweet, Extra Switches and gauges aplenty inside. Floor pan slightly damaged by jacking but otherwise reasonably sound but rotten outer sills. Small hole in boot floor. Don't know what it sold for but guide price was £4000-6000.

Not sure it's an S Works, need to see the conversion plate on the crossmember.
Sport 5s were not S Works
Quite a number of Coopers were fitted with S kits to the engine but they were not part of the S Works limited edition
250 S Works were ment to be built but they only achieved about 218
They never gave 90 bhp most not even 80
I think John Cooper signed the hand books and shook hands with all the customers he certainly did when collect ours
The JK 5 speed box was replaced at 1,500 miles after destroying itself
