The mirrors must be very expensive (approximately £5000 each!) judging by the price of the car last year as compared to it asking price a year later.... :D

Hmm, so was it under priced then, or over priced now ?. Pity it's ended up with a dealer.

I agree - I was very tempted last year but just didn't have the money at the time. It really is a fantastic timewarp car. For me - despite its originality -it is now overpriced given that it is a 997 Cooper. Others might disagree!

Rarity and originality are important but only add so much to the value , it's a run of the mill bog standard 997 at the end of the day and even in JCs own words were nothing really special, If that was an S it'd be a £40k+ car! Having said that we've seen the odd '59 fetch crackers money and ultimately it WILL sell at that price to someone who really wants it!

Interesting engine configuration. Over bored small bore block with a 1275 crank?

Presumably on drum brakes too. Must have been fun!

The article mentions "Cooper" but not "S", so possibly 997 Cooper (and the article is 1964 so there would probably be more spare 997 engines than 1275 to take cranks from)

81.3 is the Standard 1275 stroke. 997 was 81.28. Unless I'm wrong?

I think that could just be a rounding thing? Two of the original brochures list the stroke as 3.20" for each engine (and 81.33mm). There is also one of Mark's brochures here from 1963 with the same speedwell engine, which is before the 1275 engine was used in the mini

997

Speedwell

Although this one Austin lists the 1275 as 81.28mm
