Fred you should send a photo to the woman you bought it from. I think she will fall off her chair when she sees the car. Fantastic work!

Brilliant job, panel gaps to die for. I remember trying to find the owner a decent Mk1 S last year but he's certainly come up trumps with this car. As I recall it grew some funky mods in the 60's with a home made air flow system and 'Radfordesque' paint job.

Top job Fred.

the chap had made them all from wood, very strange,
well its up and running, first time since 1973 when the road tax ran out.
very pleased with the car,it's a joy, and a priveilige to work on such a correct car.
it'll be at Beaulieu at the weekend, not 100% finished, but looking like it.
be pleased to meet any forum members,

Thankyou LDR and all others,
this thread wasn't started for that reason, this car is so special, it had to be restored and without cost and value the ruling factor,
i have been very lucky to be the one to do this, and it has been a pleasure and burden at the same time,
it is going to be seen out and about, for all to enjoy.
many thanks for all the nice comments.

Just read about this car in Practical Classics - what an amazing bit of welding too. How did it end up as just a floor and bulkhead?!

Having spent my kids inheritance buying this 970S from nippycars just after they found it, I can explain!
Fred of nippycars was going to repair the bins and rear floor as they werent too bad, but decided to replace them all instead. He drilled through the spot welds, took off the roof and side panels, bunged in the new bins and floor, and then replaced the original side panels etc all while the remains of the body was on his jig.
Nightmare. I was panicking!
He seemed confident of the quality of the eventual outcome as he been there so many times before, and the result was really excellent in the end.
Like most projects, the work to do just got more and more extensive if you are committed to do it properly. I never seem to learn!

What a beauty!
I'd much rather "inherit" that S than anything else, and to be honest your money is probably better invested in it than any bank at the mo
