Just found a carrier bag in my loft full of the car brochures I picked up as a youngster at the 1967, '68, '69 and '70 Earls Court Motor Shows...my older brother was in the motor trade and used to get free tickets and took me along every year. I remember being impressed by the shiny Mk2 Mini improvements and later the BL Mk3 and 1275GT launch. Also remember getting told off by a salesman on the Jaguar stand for taking an E-Type brochure which put me off ever owning any kind of Jag!

I will keep the Mini brochures for now but all the rest really need to go on ebay or maybe sold to a dealer like Pooks?

I've driven through Rothley loads of times and had no idea Pooks was there.

Those special motor show cars like the Riley Elf above, that BMC and BL built were very impressive and engineering works of art. Sadly I guess most of them were broken up after the show season ended so few if any examples survive. Looking through my old motor show car brochures from that era there was much more technical detail, diagrams and explanation of what was under the bonnet, suspension, etc.
eg. If you look at a modern BMW MINI brochure it is just a load of meaningless corporate marketing speak/babble/jargon which leaves you none the wiser....

Memory recall that back in the day BMC Motor Show Cars were production cars then striped out with paintwork improved & rebuilt all shiny as Motor Show Cars..remember as a young lad looking through Morris Garages Oxford Showroom window @ Motor Show Cars that were offered for sale.
Years later when working at Cowley specific Marina,Maxi & MGB shells got special treatment as they went through the Pressed Steel Paintshop were those Body Shells show cars or employee purchase cars. ;)

My friend bought direct from Abingdon via the employees scheme - even though he wasn't one - a damask (maroon...) MGB GT V8 marked on the slam panel SCOT SHOW, as the ex Scottish Show car. All shiny bits and extra chrome. But still a rust box after 6 years
