Unipower extracts from 66 & 67
Did they ever do an "Open Spyder" version as described in 1966?

Nope, they struggled enough to get production going for the standard car in the first year (made 10 I think) let alone try and make anything else!

AndyB72 wrote:Thanks Mark, I've got a catalogue from '67 and '68, would be nice to have some period stickers for the back window.
Pete I've got a box full of paddock passes from the 60s and 70s, I'll dig them out and take some snaps.
That'd be interesting, thanks Andy.

Quick update, still not had a chance to have a blast in the car as that test day never materialised for one reason or another. The body's near enough done, still got to put the Janspeed logo on the side, hand paint the Janspeed/Mabbs/Leo details on the side aswell and sort the badge stickers out on the back, then the body's pretty much finished. (aside from adjust the rear clam to fit better)
Despite me wanting to keep as much the original car as I can, even the tired looking window channels, catches, cracked dash top and pillar vinyl etc I've decided I'm probably going to replace all the perspex as it just looks too scratched.
I've bought quite a few JAP wheels so will be trying to get a decent set together to put on it soon, then tyres to sort (yikes£££). Still got loads of work to do on it :finish the wiring, do some detailing in the engine bay, grilles to paint and fit front and back, lamp bowl rubber seals to do (make) so I can fit the chrome rims, ali air scoops to fabricate then I've got the dash to re-jig, loads of bits really.
Not an ideal day to get decent photos between the snow showers but had a quick go :
Here's some of the race programmes I've collected so far with the car in...

Ian , the damage may well be to your back just attempting to get in, and if it all goes wrong getting out ain't any easier!

Looking good Pete,
All those little detailing jobs will take a bit of time yet, but they will turn a fantastic car into a total stunner!

Pete,
I have been working on the Unipower vinyl script for the rear of my car (which is probably a good few years behind yours) do you have any idea of the size it is, height of letters and overall length. If you need one I can cut it for you on our vinyl cutter.

This is a fab read and such a great ref file to an indiv car ..I always thought the Unipower was the best looking of all mini variants if u can in fact call it that ?! .. it looks like it would do 150 mph standing still !!.. a great design for its time..i would go as far as to say almost Elanish or E type looking even the Marcos variants of the late 60,s and 70,s are in the same league of design.. be nice to know what the final spec of the car will be along with trim, wheels etc etc .. ?? great article.. foxy52

According to Jan Odor who I sent some recent shots to this week the Leo on the side in the pic above is Leo Nicholson of Leo Motors (LEO MTRS) Salisbury who painted it red in late July '67. I can't see me getting Leo to sign write it, better get the kids' paint set out of the loft..
