Re: 1275 GT thread
This car is Portuguese built, as 99% of the 1275 Gt's available here.Interestingly on the Historic Vehicle paperwork (on the owner's website) it looks to be Teal Blue in the photo. Also states that the car was fitted with a Newton Interior so you were right!
That is clearly visible in the chassis ID ending with an 'S' , which denotes Setubal ( the plant location ) .
For sure in 73 the rev counter would be a 6k redline one...
Regarding the central ignition key, i've never seen it combined with a Rod Change gearbox , but i am not sure when column ignition was introduced.
cheers
Luis

Re: 1275 GT thread
Of course - Mini Mokes. Were Minis CKD kits from Longbridge or proper built up cars like the Auto and Belgian cars?

Re: 1275 GT thread
We always used CKD kits , if in the mid/late 60s only a couple of components were locally made ( EG: seats ), with time more local components were incorporated ( Seats, glasses, wheels i believe, etc )Of course - Mini Mokes. Cheers

Re: 1275 GT thread
Spotted in the At The Auction Thread, and posted by BigWig, is this 1976 GT at Mathewsons. I thought I'd post up the video so that everyone can see the details of what appears to be a very original '76 GT. Hopefully Mathewsons will leave the video up after the auction as it is a great reference for anyone restoring a mid '70s car

YouTube videos can be downloaded using known tools should you want to keep it for future reference. Obviously there are copyright requirements to be observed.surfblue63 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 2:29 pm Hopefully Mathewsons will leave the video up after the auction as it is a great reference for anyone restoring a mid '70s car

Re: 1275 GT thread
Can i ask the question of where the Front Grill "GT Badge" should be positioned as certainly Leyland adverts show that GT Badge located in differing positions ..
Re: 1275 GT thread
The most common placement is to the lower left of the grille. But as there is not a fixed point then the actual position can vary.

Re: 1275 GT thread
Just to be shure, what is the colour of the original steel 10" rims ? And are the centres the same as from the MGB ?

Re: 1275 GT thread
There is a question as to the colour of the very early wheels being a darker shade of silver grey, but most seem to be regular wheel silver in colour. Also all British supplied wheels were all over one colour, unlike the Firsat wheels fitted to Innocent cars and the Fergat wheels fitted to late Authi Mini Coopers.

Re: 1275 GT thread
The MG Midget RoStyles - like the MGB - had the centre details picked out in black.
As Stuart says, the 1275GT 10inch wheels were silver all over

Re: 1275 GT thread
Possible misunderstanding. I am referring to the centre caps being the same as a Midget. Not the paint finish.

Re: 1275 GT thread
You have to be careful with old RoStyle wheels. (The RO stood for Rubery Owen who supplied them to Ford, Vauxhall and BLMC). Iirc, the chrome wheel nuts had a different taper to regular Mini ones and so the taper in the wheels was different. Many were fitted later on using standard wheel nuts and that buggered the wheels. Refit the correct chrome nuts and they would not grip the now-misshapen wheel holes, resulting in the wheels trying to fall off.
It's 30 years since I hast had a GT though. Could be wrong.

Re: 1275 GT thread
I currently have a complete global monopoly on all the 10” Rostyles with oval stud holes as a result of the fitting of standard Mini wheel nuts.
