Those travellers are just up the road from me. Originally designed for Austin himself and later H A Saunders and finally Mann Egerton I think. Now saved by the uni and part of their art department.

They didnt have to go far as the other buildings in the background are part of the police station.

Love it, I wonder if any of them survive, can’t say I’ve ever seen a Police Mini Traveller.

In the early 80’s I helped a friend restore his Moke. We then set off for a trip to France including a drive up to the Pic du Midi in the Pyrenees at 2877 metres. The track stopped short of the top so we had to walk the last 100 metres or so but still pretty high. I don’t’ recall any problem with the trip even though the Moke was standard and on road tyres. All good fun!

This photo is borrowed from one of the other topics, but is interesting because this Moke is one of the ex-Denbighshire Police Mokes. There were five in the series HCA516E to HCA520E plus a further seven in the series KCA214F to KCA220F It is nice to see it painted in its original colour and it still survives but is now painted purple!

Love this photo, growing up living in Caernarfon I well remember the White Mokes the local Police had. Interesting to see where this one got to especially as in 1976 I crossed from France via Andorra into Spain. Sadly not in a Moke but in a Toyota Celica ST on our way to Estepona. A 5k mile road trip in 4 weeks, I’m glad it wasn’t in a Moke but envious of your trip.

Good to see another on its way to being restored. They seem to be around but still as rare as sailors parachutes. The irony is that owners soon dispose - or tire - of them and sell them on. Maybe it's like living in a haunted house

In fact, I gently remind the ex works people that they're rarer that ex works cars

I think your right peter , mine got repainted red then a webasto roof fitted

so i guess they were trying to get away from anything that resembled a police car

That blue light/roof box gave me a real headache. It'd been welded up, presumably with a gas welder and had distorted the roof. So a vinyl roof covering was used that strll showed the distortion. So it was a new roof that was a bit of a job. The GOOD news that because the roof was still in production I could get a new one from Unipart and under the employees scheme by a Unipart neighbour. It cost the grand sum of £13 or so in 1984. I did question it and my kindly neighbour explained that it was a one hit pressing, done at PSF in Swindon. So new roof it was......

I wonder why a Liverpool Police car would have an Oxfordshire registration number? A cherished transfer somewhere along the line I guess?

Two points chaps. So far as I know, Oxfordshire nor Oxford City police had a Cooper S. Buckinghamshire..., yes. But BW is an Oxfordshire number.

I might have missed it but I didn't read that it was an ex Liverpool car. But another to add to the list albeit that we suspect that it is a transferred number. But interesting.

A more thorough look through the auction details reveals that the car was originally registered XLV 122J. It has some fascinating original paperwork from it's days as a Liverpool Police car. Recent MOTs were carried out in Harwell Peter. Not far from you!
My guess is that the owner had a personal plate on it at some stage and that the current EBW plate is a replacement. I know that Oxford LVLO used EBW registrations for some time as replacements.
The car could clearly do with some improvement but very unusual for an ex Police car to have survived in such largely original condition.
