I'm inclined towards the latter meself - the plain green seats/trim and no chrome trim on the doors seem to give it away as an SDL (Of course, it was easy back then, as it now, to Cooperize it). Nice project actually, if you can get the V5 and buy it for a decent price. If I had the house room I'd restore that one pretty much as it is, keeping the period mods where possible. Looks like it was a fun weekend warrior back in the day!

Hard to call but actually I think it DOES have the clips still on the doors to attach the stainless upper trims?
Shame there are no pictures of inside the boot to see the bootboard brackets and also, athough the chassis number is pictured I can't read it! Of course ALL these parts can be swapped from one car to another so........who knows. It looks as if it'll require a bit of work around the screen apertures so it's probably rusty in many other places too.

Looks to me like the chassis number begins A/A S which makes it a non Cooper.

Not a Mark1 but early 1275GT's are getting quite rare and I think this would worth saving.

I agree, rivets for the door chromes look original, I think I can see dash vinyl and the badge locations look right.

Admittedly it's not an easy one to call, not helped by the shite quality of the pictures more than anything. However I've just stuck the pic of the chassis plate in Photoshop and had a play around, and the chassis number deffo starts with A/A2S7 (as mentioned above) and (as the ad description states) ends in M (which makes it a Cowley car, which rules out the prospect of it being a Cooper). I know it might sound daft (especially from a 21st century perspective) but could the SDL have actually been reshelled with a Cooper shell back in the day? Stranger things have happened… :o

Had a chap tell me about putting 850 log books onto the odd cooper because the insurance was cheaper. You never know.

....and how they would laugh at us now. In about 05, I was running my mothers ex-pug 106D. 1.4 diesel N/A. 180000 miles, value of about £500 (if you're pushing the boat out), no mods, nothing exciting, just peasant transport. It wasn't for work, kept out in the sticks behind a locked gate ;) and ins was £580 TPFT.

At the same time, my full race mini, with no interior, roll cage, uprated everything was £135.

You can imagine which one got thrashed to work!

It's an '89 BAC M-30 car (or a look alike with all the right stuff attached)

Only 30 even made

AA2BS1283581A as the quoted VIN number doesn't sound right for a BAC-30, should be something like SAXXL2S.

Doesn't AA2B belong to a Moke?? :shock:

Once owned a 3 door Cosworth . OMG how the prices have changed :shock: . But like the mini owners someone will buy the bottle for a 100% concours restoration . So a glass washer bottle is cheap at £600 :lol:

The reason for the old/wrong no & documents, is that you cant legally import/registre any Mini into USA, after 69 (app)

The law changed in 1998, there is now a rolling 25 year cut off for personal imports.

Section 8 on the following link.

There is now a fast growing market for Euro spec 1980's hot hatches in the US. This could also see an increase in demand for Rover Minis in the next 10 years, so buy now whilst they are still relatively cheap.
