I then proceeded to lap the valves in. Replaced the timing chain again. New head gasket and engine was all back together.
I removed the grey diaphragm and fitted a new standard item as the rate at which the clutch arms needed replacing did not justify the grey item.

The boots on the shafts was also replaced and a new speedo cable fitted again.

For the first time since I have been building minis, I painted the water pump pulley yellow. Engine went back in the hole.

Finally I changed to a spin on filter adapter and removed the old purolator setup.

As part of the ongoing maintenance, opened the RH hub and found this the state of the wheel bearing/oil seal sludge...

I then refitted this spacer for the oil seal that I found recently while having a cleanup, should help keep the oil seal in place in future.

Some new wheel bearings and oil seals later, the hub was good as new again. Also replaced the outer cv and the boot.

The new diaphragm meant I had to adjust the clutch. After all adjustments were made, clutch still was not happy. So I resorted to one of these.

Then I found the slave cylinder was leaking too much, as it was a used one that I just fitted a new seal to. I sourced a new clutch slave, after bleeding it, the master just kept losing fluid. After stripping the new slave cylinder apart I found no seal fitted behind the piston. Had a nice chat to the supplier and about it and exchanged the slave. Fitted it up and finally had a very well working clutch pedal indeed.
