Hello

I don't understand the aim to modify an Austin baby to a Morris Cooper S?

You should keep the identity of your car..

I have several mk1, 850, 997, 998, as for me every car is different and has its own personality.

And a S is not better than a 850 :P

I totally understand. Everything from DPU as an 850 is being kept safe. I’m very lucky to have a nice solid base to work with and this is the only Mk1 I will ever own due to prices and space. I’ve therefore decided to create a car that represents everything I want in my mini I.e a Mk1 Morris Cooper 1071 ‘S’. It’s not created to deceive people and it’s not a fake S, it’s a car that has a certain look with a genuine Downton engine and the Downton theme carries on throughout the car with genuine period parts and it puts a smile on my face every time I open the garage. It’s a mini that hopefully will give interest and it will be driven, enjoyed and will never be sold because that was the promise made to the previous family that owned the car from 1966.

Cheers Tim

Well said cooperstim!

I did the same with my 850 but no Downton bits. I can't even afford a badge now

Yes got to agree with Tim here ... it's he's mini and why not modify it to how he wants it . That's what owning minis are all about . Carry on , it's looking like a tastefully modded mini ....... ken

Your car looks great Tim and as said do as you please, nothing cannot be undone.

I get great pleasure from my ‘S’ knowing it cost a fraction of what it will cost me to do HOY and feel more able to use it and give it a bit of abuse sometimes.

I’m looking forward to the experts telling me that HOY is not a real S because it has one tank, unlike the twin tank FY ‘S’ next to it, which must be real

Today finally got round to fitting the Adjusta Rides to the rear of the car. Sitting a bit too low so will get some adjustment when everything goes back in. Also got more primer on the front panel yesterday so we should get top coat next weekend. Good news on the new engine which should be ready to go back in within the next couple of weeks.

Another productive day yesterday. Getting closer to fitting the Dulles and the stainless wheel arch trim. You can’t beat 4.5 ‘S’ steels!

Very nice Tim, unusual looking filler cap on there. Just wondering why the top dash rail hasn't been covered in vinyl..?

Hopefully getting the top coat on this coming weekend. Paint needs to be hardened before the engine goes back in.

Today finally saw the Tweed Grey top coat on the front panel. All of a sudden DPU looks a different car and we seem to have moved on a lot! Give the paint a couple of days to harden and I can start to build it up.

Started to put the shiny bits back on today and fitted Spax adjustables all round. There’s a tiny difference in colour but it’s hard not to when you only paint the front panel and you have to stop somewhere. Car is in for a full respray next year

Continuing the slow process of building DPU up whilst waiting for the new engine. Moved onto the carpet tonight but the fit is really not great considering the price!
