That is certainly a poor bit of detailing  . I not sure that Gaydon are particularly interested in detail though.

There are actually quite a number of bits wrong on this car. One thing that I didn't notice before is the wrong horn...

but have been told from a Danish 59 owner
Micheal?

AOK is 100% the genuine article, Yes it's been messed about with, restored, repaired and refitted by Longbridge (hence full late 60 spec Austin interior etc etc) before being sold in September 60, but is 100% the original shell.

It can't be 100% if they have changed the trim, let alone the under bonnet detailing that we can see, might be 75% or am I just too pedantic. :?

No you miss understand, I didn't say it was 100% original, I said it was 100% the genuine. The first built Mini, chassis 101 etc etc. It's not a re-shell as many would have you believe. In fact the shell - minus wings and roof skin - is just about the only original (March 59 built) part left. Most other stuff is either September 60 or a mid 60's replacement when BMC got it back.

So would it be fair to say that there are other 59ers minis who preserve or have fitted more original or correct parts from 1959 than the one owned by BMC regarded as the "oldest Mini"? (besides an older pre.production car sold to a BMC worker as per a youtube clip). Thats weird.

We spent a good few hours under AOK with Micheal in 09, it tells a very interesting story.

Yes many more original cars survive but AOK is 100% the first.

The youtube clip car you talk about is no pre-production car, 434 NWL referred to as the Ferriman car after it's long time owner Bernard Ferriman is a very early car yes, originally Morris chassis number 140 it was renumbered as 381 and finally sold off second hand in 1961 having been renumbered again as chassis number 98. It was sold by Ferriman and was given away by a news paper long with a new Mini. it turned up at an auction with a "new" recessed screen shell in 1999. It's not been seen since.

What crisis then?? That binnacle price is really rediculous, perhaps its the boxes that did the trick.

I bought a boxed NOS binnacle surround for about 10 Pounds on Ebay a few years ago - apparantly a very good investment
