Great work Andrew and remember, MOT exemption means the 4x2 will soon be making a welcome return as a structural member in all our favourite classics

Work is progressing at a steady pace.

Rear panel is now repaired, rear bulkhead in and side panel also 95% welded in.

Decided to use the full width Heritage lower repair section and use part of a rear quarter I bought at Blyton, rather than wreck the full rear panel I bought off Gordon. Will save that for another project that may or may not come off.

You'll note the replacement door, clamped up into place purely to see I have a door gap to work with. Considering there was pretty much nothing left of that side, it's fitting together pretty well.

I'm sure if nothing else, there'll be a few wise cracks about the T-cut bottle

The skills possessed by most of the blokes on this forum simply never fail to amaze me. And the dedication to what at first seem like lost causes is something to behold..............

This is another classic example of '.....you should put all these pictures into a book, publish it and sell it to those about to embark on similar projects' Just brilliant!

Little more progress over last few weeks ...

R/H rear quarter is now ready to spot weld/MIG into place, with all rear pocket panelwork completed.

Also decided to strip the roof to see how much I've got to repair - not quite as bad as I thought now the grot has been cleaned off it, but still a fair bit. I quite like the dark blue the roof was painted once :)

In my search for suitable roof sections, I located a circa 92 Mini shell with a really good roof that will help no-end plus a few other bits and pieces. Bargain at £50 !

There's a small article in Practical Classics this month under the Cars Reunited column featuring HOY, in the hope that someone who knew it before the previous owner can shed some light on its history. Will also be in Classic Cars at some point soon ......

Shell for repair sections ...

Will actually be cutting a few parts out of this, just in case for the future.

I phoned around the local scrapyards to see if they had any classic Minis in and they all said that they haven't had one in for years..how times change and proves that you have to jump on these cars when you can, whether for restoration or breaking.

Having looked a bit more at the dark blue the roof was once painted, I am becoming more inclined to paint it that colour again. Not original I know, but it had that colour for an unknown length of time.

Looks possibly like BMC Trafalgar Blue, Blue Royale or Mineral Blue.

Any opinions on this idea ?

Trafalgar Blue over Surf Blue would be unique, honour the cars history and look quite striking. Could always repaint if it didn't suit you long term.

To be honest, since you're taking so much time, effort, money etc taking it back to original and making such a fantastic job of it too, why not take it back to original - including the colour?
