my mother had a rover 600 that cost £125 quid for the auctions, it was bought as a 'stop gap' whilst I did the clutch in her discovery

it passed its mot with no work needed and she liked it, so she kept it.

six years later it finally died with terminal rusty rear arches

bar set of belts, a set of tyres and an exhaust down pipe, it cost nothing, and was a very comfy car, particularly in the back

she has a p38 range rover now, but still misses the old rover!

mk1 metros are starting to look very clean and sharp in my eyes

I think history is going to treat them a lot more kindly than we did, they where a pretty good car and very spacious and roomy.

I quite fancy one - there that's my dirty secret out!

Well here we go Rich : Back in the early eightys, in between Minis, I bought a Mk 1 1300 S, it really was a great little car, I put on a set of minilite copy's, modified the head and carb, messed around with the height of the hydro units and if you just got the timing right, it would go really well, at the time my mates had 2.0 Capris, cross flow escorts and this little thing kept them all honest !, did a couple of 12 cars in it too, good memories

changed the stripes at a later stage !

Do you think he would take a cheeky bid of £5100 and put a test on it for me.
Looks a bargain. A Round nose Clubman Estate and a D plate traveller all rolled in to one.
Groan...

You're not alone Rich, I really fancied that Metro, mainly because the black one John Cooper did as a prototype Metro Cooper started life exactly the same as that Metro S. I thought they were good cars, just been airbrushed from Mini history it seems, if they'd badged it as a Cooper and not an MG I'm sure lots of people would be singing a different song now! Cheap as chips still if you can find a good one.
