Maybe too many auctions. I seem to remember there were a lot less and suspect that a few auctioneers jumped on the band wagon when sales were really buzzing with good commissions to be earned. If prices drop then people will hold on to their good cars and the auction houses will struggle to meet their costs. I just watched the Duxford sale and the auctioneer was most excited when he got a genuine bid! I would be surprised if they covered their venue and staff costs, let alone make a decent profit.

A friend has a 1964 1071 S, the only one I know for certain is the real thing with the original shell, engine block, trim etc. It's a stunning restoration started in 1988 and finished five or so years later and it's still very nice. That's the car a collector will pay 50 grand plus for.

That white thing is worth 10k because you will have to start again. You've no idea what horrors lurk within the engine - a crank reground to 50 thou, a block rebored to the edge of buggery and sleeved to god knows what standard. It's obvious the body and assembly were done by Torvill & Dean but that's the stuff you can see.

My Mk3 s won the Beaulieu Cup in 2005 but it had just been restored! Not a tractor queen as it was restored and prepared for the HRCR Historic Road rally championship and competed in 2005/6 & 2007. Had a little accident. Rebuilt. Had another little accident in 2013 and rebuilt again in 2014. Still intact today after taking part in the HRCR 35 event.

No current records showing on the DVLA database for FHA 314D.

It reminds me of back in the 1970's when a friend of mine had his immaculate Mk2 Cooper S 'T-boned' by a Volvo, luckily the impact was in the vacant passengers seat side. It needed a re-shell so he ordered a new Mk2 bodyshell from the local BL Dealer but they had just gone NLA, so he opted for a new Mk3 shell instead complete with doors. It was then considered an upgrade to get the later winding windows, etc as the desire for originality was some way in the future. It is still on the DVLA database but if it turned up now that re-shell would be part of its 'genuine' history if the true story was known. On an HPi check it also comes up with a B20D..... body number (Mk3 S?) as the chassis number to further confuse...

Odd one that, as you say it doesn't come up on DVLA but it does show on our work system, which 'scrapes' the up to date DVLA records

It's a car with a life story - it's been rebuilt with a new/later shell to be a Mark 3. If the proper engine and gearbox are there it'd be a good deal for 5k.

I'd restore it back to how it was last used.

The engine number on that one seems even odder 9FF-AH39418. Lots of digging required on that one

Struggling to find much "Cooper s" about that one except Servo, Twin Tank and maybe engine, but maybe not as cant see much of it..

What shell is that, I get a bit lost when you get past a MK3, is it a MK4 ?

Lucky they include a picture of the non valid VIN plate! Every time I visit the auction I do see some real tarted up rubbish go through, one auction I really would visit before buying anything.
