Fed up of welding so I decided to get the underside protected. Two good coats of epoxy primer with Gravitec stonechip to follow once it has gone off a while. The rear valance will get treated the same and some colour before welding it in place.

Looking great David, really coming along now. I think this will give my mate Jack inspiration in doing his 70 GT.

I did the same with the underside, but opted for tintable Raptor (after being sold its virtues in no uncertain terms by the great bearded one ).

Also, painted the valence and underside of the boot floor blue before welding into place.

When it gets to this stage I always feel the corner has been turned and another car is back from the nearly dead.

I got enough Gravitex on this evening (I ran out) to be able to splash the colour in the boot area tomorrow. Valance welding on Sunday. It’s a pain with the 2K paint as it contaminates the workshop for the best part of a day making other work impossible.

looking good you certianly get things moving wish tha=e parts were as readily available here as over there i am still waiting for my order of parts for the rear suspension been months i might get them by christmas but i hope it wont be next years
i have been pondering the gear shift set up the 1800 box gear change part points to the drivers door maybe i should put the gear lever on that side between the seat and door that way it would be a straight line between them rather than long cables short rods could be used what are the thoughts about that

While getting things in a nasty messy state striping the many layers of paint I was surprised to find this label under two of the layers.
It is next to the door lock hook. I have no idea what it signifies or what 21A2717 is unless it is the label itself. So to all you sleuths out there, what’s it all about (Alfie?)?

It's an EEC safety/emissions compliance sticker.

GOT to be worth heating up behind it and carefully taking it off and re-using

When it comes to removing paint Joni Mitchell came to mind. “Don't it only go to show, you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone” It’s not very nice and filled with a heap of grott.

From the outside it seemed not too bad but best not left.
A flange bent and ready for the slicing.
Only to reveal mountains of filler.
Nothing for it but to continue with more surgery.

I’ve got to do something about the interior! But how much? Do I redo the whole thing or preserve some of the original paint? Who is going to care and why? I think the current phrase is “conflicted”?

you are sure getting this car done you make me look lasy i have not done anything on mine for ages as the parts do not come i might finish up dumping the whole thing and go back to the bikes as i can get the parts much quicker cheers roger

Roger don’t despair. Even just thinking your way through a project is good for your cognitive ability. Mind games so to speak.

My ability with a spray gun seems to have gone awol just at the moment with more runs than a track and field event. Still the bare metal is covered.
I decided that the bits that might show (under carpets and rear seat) should get fresh paint but those disappearing beneath headlining etc will stay in original factory Blaze. OK they will have a bit of overspray on them but I feel it right to hang onto some evidence of the car’s original state. Here’s a reminder of how things were. It’s good to look back
You may have noticed a B pillar and quarter panel rail without primer. That is because the rail is shot. Beneath the matt black paint it was peppered with rust holes and stuffed with filler. There are disadvantages to not blasting or dip stripping a shell but at least I don’t have to deal with removing the Sahara for months prior to painting. That rail is not a cheap bit of bent steel at £60 odd.

I’m running out of excuses not to fix the front on. Perhaps I need to paint strip and prime the bonnet first?

after my winge i set about making a new bonnet made card templates for the sides and back edges next is to get some 2mm steel to cut them to shape then tack them together with the clearence set then weld the hinge plates in place so i can start to shape the steel for the skin i cannot use standard bonnet as i lengthened the front 70mm unless you knew what you were looking at you would never pick the longer bit i will use the first 20mm of the bonnet
