for the conversion from dynamo to alternator, have you guys try the dummy lucar regulator to use with the alternator? i have seen the circuit on their website it looks better. mine is just connecting the wires between the terminal. i am not sure the it will be strong for daily use or not.

I have not seen that commercial part before. Being cheap I would not pay anyone for a part like that as the modifications to an old control box (see the Mini Spares tech article linked above by S-type) are very simple and easily done if you have a heavy soldering iron and basic mechanical skills. To each his own though.

The instructions for the board you posted the link to concern me in a couple of ways. First, I admit ignorance as I don't know what is achieved by the internal 40A fuse in their design. Second, they say all wire should be rated for at least 40A. The original factory wire will have been sized for the nominal 20A output of the Dynamo. In general, if you are replacing a dynamo with an alternator and using the old control box as a junction, your goal is to keep the "original" appearance as much as possible. Rather than run a new, single heavy gauge (40A) wire from the alternator to the control box, most conversion articles discuss running a second heavy gauge wire from the alternator to the hot terminal on the starter solenoid. That leaves the original harness/loom intact and the additional wire can be concealed (a bit) by careful routing through the engine bay.

This is turning into a bit of a thread hijack so perhaps a new thread is warranted to keep on topic.
