That looks like the Mk1 that was for sale on a trailer at Stanford Hall show ? The outside of it had a 1/2" layer of isopon.

Yes it was. I had just collected it, and as said before, had my doubts. luckyly I did not sell it. I am taking it apart, and am putting the shell up for sale to someone looking for a cheap runabound or something. will tell in the ad this is not suitible for a high standard resto.

You are absolutely right.

As I expected the seller does not want to pay back, or what so ever. this is my first A1 F*$%-up with buying a Mini. I will never buy any cars from the UK anymore, which state restored, or some sort. And if I do it, I will just walk away if it appears to be a bodged up car.

I wouldn't let it put you off but try and ask one of the board to look at it closely first. CooperCo + Co kindly looked at a couple of dodgy cars for me darn sarf before I bought my Hornet, and Mike looked at one too saving me three long wasted trips ! There's so much bodged shite out there it's not really worth the gamble.

I went down to Devon to collect a 1071 project (and the Hornet) a while ago which was NOTHING like as described cos the bodyshell was very very poor. However the engine was great and the price was right so a deal was done, and the Hornet was better than expected amazingly but as you say even if you have comitted to buy you still have every right to walk away if the car's not as described, easier said than done though eh ?

Ebay does offer buyer protection on cars. I'm not sure how you access it though.

don't feel too bad.
i too bought a mini sight unseen from ebay. paid good money for it too. the only thing usable was the block and the late cooper discs. everything else was rubbish, just had to start collecting bits to fix it.
when i found the car i have now, it was cheaper and in better condition. at that moment i scraped the ebay car. i'm still using the block and the discs are in the shed (i like single leading drums ) the remainder has been sold or swapped for things that i want for the current car.

just keep your head up, make a plan and go from there.

We've all been there I think, sometimes you just need to take the gamble and buy 'unseen'.

Going forward though there are plenty of people on this forum who I'm sure would be happy to take a look for you if the car is local to them, I did the same thing for a chap in Europe who was looking to buy a Rover P5B last year, it was only 3 miles from my house, and I saved the guy a lot of heartache as it clearly wasn't as good as it looked in the photos.

Oh I wouldn't worry! I have seen much much worse than that.

Maybe you could ask the seller to refund some of the money to save him the agrivation to come with the threat of legal action.

It worked for me when I bought a lemon without veiwing first.
