Iv,e seen original late 1071,s in hydro spec shell,s but this is a 1963 so it,s miles out

looks to have the super rare 'third option' location for the regulator box!!

Whilst the shell is obviously later than June 1963 it is quite possible that the original car had the voltage regulator box there!

Also: BUO968B is a 1964 number and isn't on the DVLA computer.

that just means it wasnt registered until 64, so was either sat around in a dealers, or raced unregistered.

not on the dvla machine just means it was unused since 1977, so was never issued with a v5.

Yes, but he gives a 1963 date of registration in the advert. Is that even the right number plate for the car?

You've entered the wrong number Andrew!. The registration is actually BUO 966B and it is on the DVLA computer.

It is correctly described as a 1071cc and was registered on 5th July 1963. It hasn't been on the road since January 1981.

I also thought something was a bit strange with the year of registration. I used to own a white / black Cooper 998 with the registration BUO 309B and that wasn't registered until 1st December 1964. One would assume that an earlier number would have been registered first but it was probably just the way numbers were allocated to dealers. Roger

Amazing. I remember a good 10 years ago now being on the hunt for various minis, seeing lots of Mk1 cars come up and what various people were up to.

This is some serious premium money. For that sort of cash, you would expect an honest car, not a bits and bobs lash up, or grandad's axe.

This reeks of bubble about to burst. People are paying the best part of £10k for a total and utter basket case "bitsa V5 S". I'm sorry, you can spout your "Supply and demand" and "discerning customer" arguments, but this has gone silly. You would think we were in Zimbabwe.

For this sort of money, I am very tempted to cash my whole collection in.

DVLA do state that the original registration date was 05/07/1963 so presumably the 1964 "B" suffix number was given to it later when the original number was sold/transfered?

I wouldn't get too carried away, cars like this were reshelled without batting an eyelid in the 60's/70's as it was the only affordable way to save 'em, S's especially were much abused, raced and rallied rot boxes not the Holy Grail of Minis that we now put so high on a pedestal. Interior and colour changes were the accepted norm, in fact even made for a more desirable car ! Even if they have their original shell they've usually been butchered.

I've had four 1071's over the years and they've all been reshells including..my current one !! Gawd help me if it ever goes on Ebay !

Exactly, there is no great mystery about that.

Back in those days there were no age related registrations, if you transferred a registration the donor vehicle received a number from the then current sequence being issued. What is interesting is that BUO is a Devon registration rather than a Plymouth one as it has supposedly always been in Plymouth.

It didn't have 4½" wheels or any other factory options when new.

It is, but in the 1960's Plymouth was then a County Borough Council and had it's own licensing authority which issued CO, DR & JY registrations - completely separate to the Devon (County Council) licensing authority which was in Exeter that issued DV, OD, T, TA, TT & UO registrations.

I was only umming and erring.

If it had been in Torquay recently, it's probably been adapted from a Ford Mondeo, or S3 landrover. Got to watch what comes out of Torquay very carefully.

You might think that's mad money, you may be right , all I would say is find another early 1071 project for less, in fact try finding a 1071 project full stop. I've not seen one sell for less than that for quite a while, even 1071 engine bits are mega hard to find now.

just think mk1 prices no matter what model have gone silly
