Indeed Mark, my unrestored may '64 S has a cream lining. I should precise the car is LHD export specifications (for France), although bought straight in England in late may '64.mk1 wrote:I would call the large square picture in Tims post the Grey that is only used in early Non Cooper Minis.
The "Cream Crackle" is definitely more cream in colour & has a pattern that looks like tiny spiders webs. It is this lining that is used on all (to the best of my knowledge) Coopers & S's.
I can post pictures if necessary. The rear part is the original one as attested by the paint stains belonging to the car being repainted in Cooper colours - both outside and inside - in early 1965 - this again being attested by a period picture taken at the start of an important national rally in may 1965. The front part was changed when the roof lamp previously fitted for rallying was unbolt, probably in late 1966 when the first owner sold the car - but this front part is cream as well.
I just cleaned both of them and they looks nice, with authentic glue stains ... ! Only trouble I had is the old lining is fragile and has cracked in places. I used "gaffer" tape to "rejoin" cracks and refitted the whole lining on its original frame in order to have a nice even tension.
I am sure I could have sealed the cracks with carefully applying some acetone with a little brush, but I should have done this before refitting the linings on the frames.
Sorry for my random English.
Cheers
