ive always done them this way as well, maybe this is why i never have any problems!!
Well, I had cause to try this yesterday and it worked a treat, much much easier than the way I had been doing it, even my good wife recons I had been doing it the wrong way :D :shock:

I've seen reports on other forums that squashing the new mounts in a vice for a week helps. I'm giving that a go right now. :)

I'm pleased it worked for you. I discovered it years ago after thinking there must be a better way than jumping up and down on my engine.

If anyone has some advice on fitting MGB gearbox mounts, I'd be happy to hear it!

those mgb trans mounts are a pain.it's easier to take the weight off the trans and remove the crossmember.you usually have to loosen or remove the exhaust also.more work but a lot easier than trying to do them under the car. jw
