Back in the day, mid '70's, my mini, and most of the others I came across, had tight rubber "boots" fitted to the distributor cap and the business end of the coil. These worked pretty well, are they no longer available ?

I use the plastic boots for coil and distributor from Minispares.
Just recently hosed off engine cleaner and the car started first time.

These were fitted to the Aussie Cars from about 1976;-



They were held in place by the cap clips;-



Very rare to see them anywhere these days. From memory, they were moderately effective.

That's what I have in my Moke. It's a bit old and fragile, but I've had less trouble with water in the distributer in this Moke than with any of the others. Its small so doesn't get in the way too badly when you are working. Better than the icecream container I used for years in my old Deluxe. That thing would start misfiring as soon as the weather report suggested rain was on the way! (turned out I had the coil polarity reversed).
