I’ve been watching this thread and that Island Blue car to me looks the business.
What my inner youth would love, shame the outer bit isn’t so youthful! 🥲

Maybe Mark should start a thread for those emotional souls fretting about disposing of their Mini Coopers.

A sort of well meaning Agony Aunt......., a sort of social worker for Mini owners

To put things in perspective, my dad a neighbor and I built that trailer in three days with a couple hundred dollars. That was 1974 so I could go to the Glen for the N/E SCCA Solo 2 run offs. I added the tire rack which holds 4 wets, 4 drys and the trailer spare when I started vintage racing in 90. I had to add the boat wench when I could no longer load alone. Steve (CTR)

A bit of relief. Couldn't negotiate a price even with the usual tear jerking sob stories from the proposed buyer. So the beautiful little red tart, the Rover Cooper Sport-5 stays in my garage.

No need for Mark to start his Agony Aunt sob-story page for needy Cooper owners now

Isn't that the emotional parts Peter? The fear no one else will value our little chunks of gold as we do. I fear we have reached the point where the cost to build a top-of-the-line car is greater than its value when done. Steve (CTR)

I guess it's just one of those things. I sent old blue out for some scuff and buff and he's painting the car. We were in the same sports car club in the 60s. He was rear ended in his Mk2 S which ruptured the right tank and burst into flames. Three-time cancer survivor and smokes two packs a day?? This does not seem the path out of mini ownership. Guess I'll have to get more pictures. Steve (CTR)

PS He wants the flares car color? I guess I take pictures and measurements to have a number plate made for the bonnet?

So much for a scuff and buff. While prepping for paint we found some floor rust. In for a dime in for a dollar. I don't sell things that I'd not much rather keep. Steve (CTR)

I must have lost my mind. Body shop called, doors off, glass out, everything else removed. Now they are removing front sub and power unit. This is not what was supposed to happen. Don't guess I can sell as is where is now? I'm going to have to sell the wide body to pay for this paint job. Steve (CTR)

I think we did better on your project. I screamed "no" at him so many times I think he heard me. I was struggling to complete a 79 Canadian 1000 due out yesterday. Now on to the 99 Sport Pac new door replacement then the 66 Morris Cooper hill climb car. Steve

Due to finding some rust issues we have decided to completely disassemble and effect repairs with new sheet metal and paint. I do want to replace the number plate/sticker formerly on bonnet. This was unexpected and will require a month or two, I suspect. Sheet metal has been ordered. My 1990 Rover Mainstream Cooper is complete and ready to go. I can provide photos and specs following a ten month freshening. I'd like to think offers in the $24,000 US range would be in order. Steve (CTR)

I sure hope someone likes this color as much as I do. I had no plan to get this deep into this car. I can not help myself. If it needs fixing I get to it. Steve (CTR)

I kind of thought I'd be able to sort the Blue without spending a lot of money. No fool like an old fool! I'm fairly sure I have reached the point of diminishing returns. I'm not looking for bids or offers, but would truly like to know what value I might expect when done. I have no back ground in Rally cars or clones. Thanks Steve (CTR)

Yesterdays plan was to pick up Blue, bring back to my shop to remove front sub frame complete with power unit. That will allow better access to repair front floor and toe board. It rained all day and no need to get it wet. I'm excited as I see this as a very special car. I'm not a fan of RHD cars in spite of driving them when I have to. That may lead to my selling my 1964 1071 Cooper S project. Steve (CTR)
