No, because the reel needs to drop closer to the floor. There's no way to alter the position of the reel mount plate hole without blocking it up and drilling a new hole, which doesn't seem practical at the moment. Somerfords haven't come back to me yet with any comments to I'll wait.
This mk1 has a new floor so I'm wondering if the captive threaded hole is not in the correct position i.e. too high.

That could be the reason why, I had to move the captive nut on a 'floor repair panel' to match the original on the other side, should look like this.

Thanks Bob. I'll have a measure.
What's the best method to add a lower hole? Would a rivnut be strong enough or ??.

Just a measure and have same measurements as you. The hole is 60mm below the door seal.

OK, so are you saying your hole position is the same as mine? There should be a spreader plate and a 7/16" UNF nut welded to it to take the load in a crash. If you use a Rivnut you won't live long! Have you worked out how much lower and further back the retaining bolt needs to be to avoid hitting the door bin?

Using a rivnut was merely a tongue in cheek suggestion.
I've fitted both belts now and cut the plastic reel cover off so the bottom of the bins don't hit the reel. I'm away in Spain with the car at the moment so when I return to the UK I might fabricate a new back plate for the reel with a higher hole.
I don't think 'moving' the captive fixing is a viable option without major fabrication adjustments to the inner sill. Better to mod the reel back plate I think.

Thanks all for suggestions.
