No Mk3 S's were assembled in SA. There were a handful of Mk2's (like 70 or so if I recall correctly).

FYM422GP has a vertical oil cooler, so pre 66 as Leon says.
JJX385GP has a horizontal oil cooler and diagonal front panel stiffener, but still early doors. Early 1966? But also somehow a full skirt front valance?
..tks for the info abri..only 70 or so mk 2,s eh ?? thats makes them a rare beast ,..spose the aussie doors with quarterlight windows for coopers coincided with the start of mk 2 production here..perhaps ??.funny how they only caught on with uk coachbuilders and/or the fixed tilling quarterlight on mine and a handfull of other uk cars....tks again for the reply...foxy52
Well, I went and checked up on my facts. Ryno Verster's book on South African minis show production(assembly) figures for 31 Mk2 Austin Cooper S's in the July '68 to June '69 financial year at the Blackheath plant in Cape Town. However, between July '67 and June '68 138 Austin Cooper S 1275's were built. I'd assume that from Jan '68 they'd have been Mk2's. So the total of 70 I mentioned earlier, I'm not sure where I got it from. There could be a few more.
..tks again for info,..yep jan 68 musta been mk 2,s though to europeans when u see one at car shows they look to all intense and purposes like mk1,s with their grilles and rear light clusters....tks again,..superb pics of yr cars and scenery !! .its always been nice to see the historic interest in minis in aus and s a,.. wonder if there is the same historic albeit small following in zim or other african states ? ..foxy52

Here is a Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) assembled car. Not sure if it is the original colour or upholstery but note the plate on the slam panel.

Yeah, I guess people here are pretty speed crazy, so anything to make it "go faster" ;)

R100000 is 7685 in "real money" (GBP)...although, believe me, R100000 is pretty "real" if you earn Rands.

Here's an S for sale (mine) for a little bit more
