Steering Rack "Bush" on left hand side was cause when over a pot hole on one of mine.. just a sod of a job to change with the rack in position
On my car the play and consequent knocking from this bush was very apparent to a passenger with their foot on the toeboard especially in the area of the nuts securing the steering rack retaining u-bolt on that side.
Not sure I'm still on topic. Yesterday I stripped a 67 Cooper S Hydro front sub. It appears the brackets are held in place by two maybe 6/32 machine screws. Once brackets removed the hydro bag still needed rotating slightly to remove. As for off end rack play I have been machining bushings using nylon, Delrin and oil-lite bronze. I have one of each bushed, lubed and booted waiting for a need. Steve (CTR)
