Great info on this post as I am currently refurbishing the original tin can master and clutch cylinders from my 997 Cooper.

I have re-kitted the brake master cylinder.

My question is, do you need to put some type of grease on the shaft that joins the clevis pin? Does something lubricate under the dust cover or just leave it dry?

Didn't quite understand the question but if you're asking whether to grease the clevis pin on assembly, then I say DEFINITELY. And don't forget that for simple mathematical and mechanical reasons, the clevis pin should be a perfect fit in its hole in the clutch pedal

Usually there is a small collar which is a loose fit on the pushrod shaft, that the dust seal then fits over. If this is present then there'd be no need for grease as the running clearance is huge.

Thanks Gents. So grease the clevis pin but not the shaft. Yes the moving collar is in place so all good.

And don't forget to strip, fully clean and then grease the axis pin/shaft that the pedals rotate on while you're there

I’ve just disassembled a modern repro master cylinder and there is a dab of assembly grease in the cup where the top of the push rod articulates.

Just received my refurbished brake and clutch parts.
I used Powerbrake Exchange in California.
Sleeving was not required, just a good hone and new rubber.
The servo was plated and looks great.

Next step is to go into the chilly garage and make progress on the ‘66 S rebuild.
