My plan for Monday / Tuesday is :

- rinse with acetone to remove remaining water
- unplug holes

I had previously cleaned with vinegar, neutralized with water & baking soda, rinsed and air dried.
It was OK but I thought it could be better.

So....
- plugged holes (gas & vent)
- used 50/50 mix of Muriatic acid / distilled water and sloshed around (3 cups each)
- rinsed with distilled water & baking soda (several times) to neutralize the acid
- rinsed with Acetone to remove remaining water
- unplugged holes (gas & vent outlet)
- dried with shop vac (blowing air in)
- coated inside with 2 stroke oil


Ready to install LH & RH tanks in boot.
I found another topic showing proper install of vent pipes from tanks through boot floor.

Just a thought, but wouldn't it be very easy to make a plastic tank out of two halves that are then epoxied together? I don't know which type of plastic would be suitable but I would imagine something like ABS which is also vacuum-formable would make it a doddle to make.

edit. a quick Google tells me it isn't. But maybe it's an easy way of making a plug for fibreglass?
