To be fair to Dave he was driving on the Oulton drift course, I think the tarmac's got silicone in it or something, he was like a spaniel on wet lino ! He is actually a very good driver 8-) , how many times did you stall the car on the Borders rally Dave ? :o
Nope sticking to my guns and if the great Senna (Closet rally driver) said that then he'll do me. Nail - head - with a big hammer me thinks!!

Thanks for the compliments but TBH those 32's had to work hard on that surface, hence the squelling and water and my bad input had not alot to do with it!! and as for the reason we had to stop and the car stalled is a reason only a few on here will know, Pete your secret is safe but lets just say that Fish and chips before the event is not the way to go before a 120 mile jolly on back roads. In fact Niall has arranged buckets at next years TC's

Things are pretty sad when you have to rely on anything Senna said in public.

Not much of a secret ! They've got council workers still cleaning up the mess.

Great drivers can drive anything, look at Rauno or Whizz but I still say the star in any road rally car is the nav, like reading a newspaper on a rollercoaster in the dark with a torch and making notes as you go. That is a skill and a half.

You know what, I think that concludes the conversation. So IMHO the order of Merit goes:-

1. Navigator (or co-driver as they are now)
2. Rally Driver
3. Bus conductor
4. Chav
5. Any MP
6. Evil Dictator
7. Racing driver.

Though I'm sure theres a few mor to be inserted between points 6 and 7.

If you have to totally rely on your navigator for success, possibly owing to the type of events you do. You would do well to disregard and steer clear of any racing river worth his salt.

Have one friend who when doing to Tour of Mull, had the navigator screaming the notes at him for the whole event. At the finish, he removed his helmet and took the ear plugs out. He did know the roads quite well.

Maybe racers couldn't hack having anyone alongside them making sure they perfom their best under very testing conditions, such is the skill and concentration required or maybe they dont want internal witnesses to record missed cog's, questionable positioning and excuses for little "offs"!!

Hopkirk was very good on track, obviously no question in a rally car. Think there are drivers who are good at both , but not many. Derek Bell, very quick racer, multiple le mans winner, bloody useless in a FWD rally car
