Best option for output (for sensible money) would be this:
http://www.minispares.com/product/Class ... o%20search
but won't look very period.
You might find a 45A 17ACR style which will look a bit older. Depends on what your use will be and the wattage you intend to run, but 45A might be OK (be better than a dynamo anyway!)

Not 100% sure but I thought the Lucas 17ACR was the 45A RHS version, the 18ACR bring the 45A LHS variant. It affects the front bearing housing so the alternator could hang off the LHS or RHS when looking at the front of the engine. The A series needs a LHS mount.
The housings are the same except the position of the tapped hole for the adjustment strap and the clearance hole for the securing bolt. It is possible to undo the casing bolts to rotate the cases 120 degrees but then you need to fit a bolt and nut to the adjustment strap at the alternator and either drill out the upper bolt hole or screw the securing bolt directly to it. If I recall the thread was 5/16 UNC.

I thought the 16, 17 and 18 ACR units were all available LH or RH - the difference being the output (16 = 34A, 17 = 36A and 18 = 45A)?
I just tend to call them all 'generically' a 17ACR as that seems to be the most recognised.

North Vancouver. The spots are mounted at the licence plate brackets for stability using DIY mounting brackets made from 2 layers of 1/4" steel to keep them from shaking. I used to have LR9's but they wouldn't fit with the 'roo bar. I love my 'roo bar.
