Re: PoP 2011
Hm agree to an extent, however I think they could police it more easily by being choosy with which clubs they invite, (note the word invite)...
I know of one club who exhibited last year purely for free entry, they couldn't of cared less about getting new members etc, always the minority that spoil it

Re: PoP 2011
Well we went first year, floundered about in the mud all day, agreed as we were leaving the event had been ok, but doubted we would go again. Seems to me from that limited experience the event really does not know what it wants to be, apart from making money at every possible opportunity. Was it about Helicopters, Stunt Flying, Country Fair, JCB's, Hovercraft ----------oh and there were some race and rally cars there as well.
Go and watch some proper motor racing for goodness sake!

Re: PoP 2011
..and dont forgot the tanks and the speedboats.
I agree to an extent in that the event is trying to kill too many birds at once but on the other hand you won't see many off these cars in action anywhere else as most are no longer competed like the special saloons or are from museums like the Donington collection. As for making money, I think they broke even for the first time last year !

i heard that the only reason they did so was due to the amount of pimms bought and consumed by one p.flanagan......
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

Pete,
I fancy going again, but am not sure if I'll have a Mini to drive.
I'll have to have a think, would definately like to do it again though.

Re: PoP 2011
The Blue 850 needs tidying up & MOT'ing, The Sprint is at my Brothers & the Speedwell car is scattered round my garage in 1000 pieces. The Jeeps going OK, MOT'd and available but will look out of place on the MCR stand

Re: PoP 2011
Well Pete I have to say again, save your money and go and see some proper motor racing, this sort of champagne (or pimms) motor sport is for the socialites and should be avoided at all costs despite Wizzo's previous exploits. Here he is giving it to the 'tinas.Surf 1275 wrote:As did my camper last year !mk1 wrote: The Jeeps going OK, MOT'd and available but will look out of place on the MCR stand

Re: PoP 2011
Thanks for the input mate but I don't see why it has to be an either / or decision ? There's definately room for light hearted events like this in motorsport especially when it's actually not possible to see many of the cars that appear at POP on any race circuit anywhere
As for it being champaigne motorsport ? I think it compares very favourably with Masters as there's no fee to enter and the gate charge for speccys is no different than the Gold Cup for example.
I take I won't see you there then Ed ?

Re: PoP 2011
1965 Mini - was 8 EMO, now ?
Then Works Mini (after 1993) - maybe the old boys/new boys will have a MINI jcworks WRC car at the event. I wonder? They wouldn't come to the Cotswold Caper at Prescott - too busy! Need lots of test miles though.
ps I wonder if they have thought of producing show event replicas?
