Each to their own at the end of the day mate, I've run some of my cars on Minilifes for example but on the other hand never had a problem with original mags on other cars I've had and haven't heard any stories of original mag wheels breaking on road cars. If people really want their cars to be as near as original as poss (and judging by some of the gobsmacking prices on Ebay they certainly do) then I can understand cars running around on original mag wheels, at the end of the day the repros don't look the same whether Minilife or Roses.
I'm sure Paul will fill us in on the wheels on the Arden and Bluemin it's nice to know someone
actually reads my waffle !

Here is a photo from there catalogue,
I was going to buy a set, but ive decided not to at the moment as id just be buying them for the hell of it and there not going on a car until i get another project as i doubt they will clear my brakes on my current mini.. so i figured id hang fire.. im still very tempted just to see what there like though!!!
In my opinion, mws have got the silver ones bob on but the black ones really wrong. The finish they have decided to go for with the black ones (smooth & shiney) totally misses the point of a rose petal (the lovely sand cast finish).
However the silver ones look great to me as its unclear from the photo but there alot more rough on the spokes and more authentic looking in my opinion. Id definitely buy a set of them as i much prefer silver ones and as minispares dont sell silver (which is a shame) the only option is these mws ones.
i share Marks opinion on why risk using old magnesium ones when there is a spot on copy out there and besides magnesium does have a shelf life!
but i can also understand why they are so expensive for the real thing and they sell.. There is no replacement for the real thing.. i would buy a set just to have them sat there to look at now and again, i dont think id run them on a mini with a sticky engine though unless you go to all the hassle of x raying etc.. even then id be worring still!

I ordered a couple of these from MWS to use as spares & to see what they were like, they arrived yesterday;
And I am now very puzzled. . . . . . . . .
I have contacted MWS and hope to have more info soon.

.............
Thenk yew.
I
have never been able to understand why people are so happy to put their "priceless" car on original 1960's magnesium wheels when perfectly good copies are available fairly easily (certainly when compared to finding a "good" original set).
.............Got to agree with that one.
I'd be interested in what you found out Mark re the MWS ones.

Seems some folks already put them on Ebay :

I agree with you
999ORX, the paint is too smooth and shiney to give them the good look of real rosepetals.

yes, in the catalogue they look that way! but look at the ones on ebay! The black have a great finish, ive ordered a set of the silver ones.. then i found those ones on ebay lastnight and was a bit worried.. i thought they looked to shiney!!! definitely not matt finish.. still look very nice though.. i might have them today or tomorrow so i will take a photo of them and let you know what i think of them.
I think there being devalued selling them like that on ebay.. which is a bugger, They where always a wheel that was so rare! i mean i love seeing mk1's with them on but its going to make me sick seeing some turbo bad boy racer with a set on with his over hanging zeemax kit then i'l get "Brewers Droop"

If a perfectly good copy were available then they would have been used

They certainly look pretty yummy. I'd be VERY interested to know though how the tyre fitting goes.
I have a set of 10" MWS wheels that my tyre fitter gave up on after nearly wrecking his machine & destroying a new A032.

Compared mine (minispares ones) with these and they are exactly the same wheel and exactly the same quality, the only difference is they are CHEAPER how come mws can sell them for £50 less each?.
I am less than impressed as i only bought mine a month ago! and sure quite alot of other people who have purchased minispares ones will feel the same way.

The thing is, if you are correct and this is infact the same wheel, I'd guess that the least impressed people are Minispares themselves

but are they 'exactly' the same wheel and 'exactly' the same quality????????
im fairly confident that 99% of people who have bought the minispares ones will be happy with the price they paid for a quality wheel that does exactly what it was designed to do, and will be happy with the peace of mind that buying a quality item affords then with respect towards quality control, fitment and warrenty issues.
its unfair to compare apples with oranges
its like the belief that all roller rockers are made the same (and at the same factory), no matter how often people are corrected they wont listen as its more fun to accuse suppliers of ripping people off when they take time to ensure a product is correct and fit for purpose.

We had the sa'e problems fitting tyres to MWS wheels - in the end we sent one back to them to have a tyre fitted, which they did, and a short while later it bulged - the steel wires had broken!

I am reading this thread very interested.
I got my Rosepetals from Minispares direct after they came out.
I am very pleased with them andthe price I paid is long forgotten.
But are the MWS wheels similar wheels, or the same ones ?
It it possible to compare them ? (casting, weight...)

Tyres fitted on the minispares ones fine! So the MWS one will fit fine! I will let you know, I don't see any problem in fitting tyre to them.. there's no visible difference apart from two casting numbers. (One saying JBW).. I made a saving of £250 on a set of 5 and that not to be sniffed at.. And the £250 saving hasn't hampered the quality There is NOTHING wrong with the quality of the MWS wheels! That's just like saying those vortz ones are better than minispares because there more expensive.. In my opinion, MWS are just making less of a mark up competing against the bigger company.. Its a competitive world out there!

really........
i think i will let independant people compare the mws ones to the minispares ones and see what differences they can spot, and see if they can spot where quality and finish differ.
the mws wheels are a decent copy, priced to be attractive to the man on the street who looks at price before quality, however its unfair to have a pop at minispares because a better quality & finished product is more expensive.
whats next? how dare heritage charge more for a wing than hadrian do?..............they look the same after all......
and thats it, on this subject, im out

Guru you work for minispares, your bound to be biased.. I think if your going to keep having a pop at peoples PERSONAL opinions I seriously think you should consider having minispares join the forum as a company and then make comments about products that way. I'm also backing out of this topic as it appears you can't say anything anymore..

my personal opinion is the same as minispares on this issue.
1) the mws wheels are not from the same moulds as the minispares ones.
2) the quality of the finish and the fittings is not to the same standard.
3) the price is less than minispares, not due to some economic skulduggery by minispares, but due to the fact that its cheaper to copy a product when all the design work has been done at someone elses expense & when the item is not made to the same standard.
i dont see that any of the above is having a 'pop' at a personal opinion, its a statement of fact that, in part, can be verifed simply by looking at a each of the wheels.
sure im biased, but you can either have a supplier who robustly defends well made decent products, stands by warrenties etc, or you can have a supplier who will shrug and say 'whatever' when there is a problem.
im proud that im known as a fair person who will always be 100% honest and right when there is ever an issue with any product ive sold, and i fail to understand why this would be considered to be a character fault?
thats it, im going to kick some cats & dogs......
