When we are all dead and buried the only Mini Sprints that will have any value will be the Trickett ones.
Its incredible that he is around and willing to do them. Do you want your Mona Lisa copy to have been done by da Vinci or some backstreet artist with a better brush?

I just can't agree with that. So your saying the likes of Paul Wiginton's sprint aren't proper ones when to me they done a hell of a lot better than the Trickett ones.

I think you're missing the point there.
The authenticity of a the car is based on it being created by the original artist. It's not down to perceptions of 'quality'.

but if you build a mini cooper s to a better standard than a factory cooper s, is it a cooper s?
its turtles all the way down in a argument like this!

Tim, You are just biased.
OK, you have a Wiggy one, or most of one & that's fine, but it does get a bit boring seeing you banging on slagging Neville's work off like you do.
Neville has done more Sprints than pretty much everyone else put together & although I personally don't believe that having a Sprint done by him is the be all & end all, I don't spend any time belittling other peoples efforts & would suggest that you concentrate on getting yours finished rather than slagging off Neville's cars.
Yes, I know that one or two people did not receive what they expected, particularly in the early days (since the Trickett Sprint Rebirth), but these people are VASTLY outnumbered by the people like me who were very pleased with what they received. Only yesterday I received another email from one of Neville's customers who had a car done earlier this year & who works in the Auto safety / testing area & was absolutely knocked out by his newly Sprinted shell.
As I have said many times before there are various options for getting a shell sprinted there are no right or wrong ways, but there is only one way you will get a Sprint that is done by the person who invented them. For me & a lot of other people that is a huge selling point, for you I guess not, each to their own I would suggest. But PLEASE don't continue to "justify" your choice by slagging Neville's work off, it's simply beneath you.

Sorry if I came across as slagging his work off Mark. It just comes across from Mk1Coopers comment that if/when I finish mine it's not classed as a minisprint which it is. Surely any mini that's been sprinted is.

You've answered your own question. There are minisprints (done by the inventor / originators) and sprinted minis done by everyone else. A materially better than original copy is still a copy - and there's nothing wrong with that.

Tim this was not the intention of my post, in fact I say I've got the upmost respect for those that have sprinted their cars, Paul W's work it top quality, Pete H's car is fantastic Hawks are great quality Rich H's car is great, I personally got interested in Sprint's after being taken out by John Adair in his Purple demo car / seeing the Church green cars, I was very lucky to find a Trickett Sprint that was done by him out of sequence in the 1970's as a customer order, you could call it the first of the continuations or the last of the period Sprints I suppose
It's no different to building a tool room copy of a Cobra, to many people unless it came from Shelby it won't be a Cobra no matter how good / better it is.

You've said it yourself Rich, your car was used and enjoyed on a day to
day basis, it grew speed stripes and you had fun with it, that's why it was (is) a great car

Two words : CHURCH GREEN! (I'm nothing if not predictable!
)
Someone commented that the only sprints that'll be prized in the future will be Nev's and guess what...I disagree! Yes I'm biased and of course Nev's are the original but then when you look into the story of how the Church Green cars came into being in the late 80s it's an interesting story in itself. John Cooper ordered one (now in Japan) and Rob Walker put his name to them, chiefly because the quality was top notch. Paul Weldon looked at Nev's cars and S&A and tried to take them one step further without losing any of the original concept. I've looked at quite a few self builds and though some are incredible the thing with Weldon's was that they were perfectly scaled IMHO.
They only did half a dozen or so Mk1s and the rest were late shells, I have a Mk1 and I'm not sure there's any others in the UK. If anyone saw Dave Gilbert's car up close they'd be pretty knocked out, as I was.

I must say I was a bit miffed at the face book Mini Sprint appreciation group that opens with a statement about the only proper mini sprint being the ones that Neville did, I hadn't come across this blatant snobbery with the mini sprint until this moment and to be quite frank I was gobsmacked by the statement. I suggested that it should be renamed the Neville Trickett Mini Sprint Appreciation Group and let someone else who has an appreciation of all mini sprints run the group.
I understand that everyone wants to protect their pot of gold but are we not missing the point here, its a fecking mini, are we not all mini fans or has the wank factor and souring prices just overtaken our views.
