Great project, love the period accessories
everything exept the shorrock was on the car , dad never kept anything standard, the dash panel is made from a wardrobe , the lid lifts off and has a lovely engrave rose detail on the inside , the badge bar is a piece of stainless tube that came from honniton barracks naffe after a re-fit when dad was in REME, hence the REME badge , the smurf relates to our garage being a national benzole site [mercury club badge} and the old man getting called papa smurf, the brake meter next to mr smurf is ace, if you brake to hard it flags you red, green is good, 60"s accessories eh, absolutely no point at all , the wind deflectors are interesting,, obviously for a cooper ,s or super as the brackets allow for the chrome trim,dad thinks he got them from the leston catalogue but cant be sure, i think he will have "aquired " them back in the day

Love to see this car again Slowboy, we used to go past your dad's garage every Sunday , back in the day, on the way to see my gran in Morecambe, the highlight of my day was seeing DK and ATF sat out side the garage

That SU trumpet looks awful close to the bulkhead? or is it just the picture angle?

it was usual to just leave the carb mouth open as a std master cyl would not allow the fitting of a trumpet, we have used brake cyl shaped as you can see, converted it to a clutch and then i hand rolled and formed a trumpet that tapers from the open end into the carb AND turns a 30deg bend,and has a full radius intake, trumpet is 1mm mild steel, bell mouth is pressed 1mm stainless tig welded to the trumpet, the mounting to the carb is 4mm mild steel that i had to hand cut, the laser cutters wanted more than the value of the car around 6hours work in total there is quite a bit of clearance , in fact , have just managed to get original bulk head sound deadening in,That SU trumpet looks awful close to the bulkhead? or is it just the picture angle?

in fairness to the old man, the car is just as it has been since about a week in his ownership, it would have been pointless to change what he and everyone that knows the car remembers it looking like

wow, cant believe how many people remember the cars on the forecourt, i suppose they were there pretty much all the time for at least 20 years during garage opening times,Me too when up in Morecambe at my then girlfriend's (wife of 32years!) parents.

Just seen the 997 sat on the 'drive' and Mr Wood Snr filling a petrol can at BP
Is this the maiden voyage?
It looks absolutely FANTASTIC. That red paint and the chrome on a grey and overcast day - would've made a great, period photo.

update, car finished up the road would not stop in top gear any end up, that was around 4 weeks ago, engine out ,strip, absolutely nothing except a dodgy dowel on 3/4 selector rod, changed it and stuck a 3;2 diff in at same time,just had to mill out the early retainer to take the big pinion, on its maiden voyage it was apparent that the torque was huge and the 3;4 felt to low , back together , a few bulk head mods for belt clearance, a bit of inlet manifold tweeking whilst out also. Back in , up the road just the same, phoned rich, he was as bamboozled as i, phoned everyone really, all as baffled , all A gears all matching helix , ANYHOW, have got some pics but just been to busy to put them up of what i found,,,, a brand new 22g 68 case complete with ALL new old stock close ratio cooper 3 sync gear kit, everything absolutely brand spanking , couldnt believe it, down to crawley 2.30 am sat morning [yesterday] to me old mate oz"s [was oap], he had built the blower motorin the car, stripped box off , and diff out, built new box with 3;2 diff, all shimmed up and back together, a bit of a kip , set off back 4am today, landed back at base 7.28, engine back in with blower on etc by 10.45, drive shafts, fluids , remote and exhaust to do and hopefully all ready for blyton,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that we just now have realised we cant make !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i just hope it stays in feckin gear otherwise it will be found in the middle of morecambe bay sands , will keep informed

a few pics of the nos box and close ratio 3 sync gear kit , every part has a bmc part number, the guy showed me pics of it all in wrappers !!!

3 or 4 hours networking and trawling internet, ended up at a man withthis box under the bed !!!!!, he is emigrating ,so ideal to deal with, no, wont be at blyton, well miffed, have bust my bollox to get the car right for the old man and blyton, still, always next year
