Hey Steve ..919 BBU. !! What ever happened to it?
Funny enough I was only thinking about that car the other day.

BBU, i sold to Tom Turkington in Ireland who also originally bought my smoke grey 1070 off me. When Tom sold off most of his collection Sussex Sports cars bought them and contacted me. I had the choice of the 1070 and BBU, couldn't afford both so plumped for the 'S'. A mate of mine wanted BBU but couldn't afford it at the time, it ended sold to Japan, seen some pics of it on a Japanese website a few years ago. I built that car 98% accurate to a build sheet for 737ABL prepared for the 63 Tulip rally, Bill Price kindly copied the build sheet for me. Had everything including a 'Moray' chain operated radiator blind, i had never even seen one before, but i found a NOS boxed one, never seen one since! Deffo track it down and by it back if my numbers come up on the Lotto tonight ;)

There was a chain operated roller radiator blind on the 'spares' A40 that came with mine. It was in a bit of a state so I think I just binned it. Are they a hare to find 'works' part? If so I'll have a look for it if it might be of use to anyone?

A couple of updates on the Orangebox, had a few of the small replacement panels arrive last week :D

Image

Doors a virtually ready for paint, these came off my dad, bought them from a local scrapyard 30 odd years ago, 30 quid :o

And the shell coming on, a bit of OEW on the roof, only a base coat really, hopefully the front end should be on by next weekend, inner and outer wings, front panel, A panels and door pillars and scuttle panel . Plenty of other small repairs done.

Well last Saturday I brought the Orangebox back. Billy my body man has done a good job for sensible money. Even so funds have dwindled so I have decided against going down the route of doing the Mini Sport HRCR Mini Cup tarmac championship in 2017, the money I need for new Hans device, suit, helmet etc I can't justify, so Orangebox is going to remain a 'road rally' car like it always has been.

I would like to just use it for 'things' that take my fancy, and not doing the Mini Cup means I don't have a deadline and I can concentrate on enjoying putting the car back together. Anyway a couple of up to date pics. More to follow as things progress.

Thought an update is more than overdue! Work and other stuff has got in the way of a lot of progress. One big decision I have made is to retire the car from active competition for the foreseeable future, and hence the rebuild is going to see the car in proper period spec down to original Speedpilot, navigation equipment etc.

I just to enjoy it, including going on holiday in it and retracing all the old rally routes in it at my leisure, even going to take the wife! Anyway some pics showing progress.
