Bought some D1's from Somerford, just 5 mins down the road. Ordered some Falkens from mytyres.co.uk. Hopefully will fit ok without too much overhang.

Better with 145 tyres and bear in mind both photos of wheels on S's I posted were of original D1s, can't vouch for the new repro ones which are different in several repects, one of which is that they don't use sleeve nuts. Not sure on the offset.surf-blue-850 wrote:Bought some D1's from Somerford, just 5 mins down the road. Ordered some Falkens from mytyres.co.uk. Hopefully will fit ok without too much overhang.

Nope, and I don't think they grip as well or look as good as R7s.minitravellerman wrote:When on the subject of tyres (apologies for piggy backing on this thread), I was considering getting 165/70 Dunlop Aquajet SP Sports for a set of BWA alloys I got for my Traveller. They are quite pricey so are they really worth it just to get a period looking tyre?

Re: Wheel and tyre choice
For your interest, I've just put on a set of 4.5" Japanese CR onto my MK3 S (Rosepetal again sorry!
), with narrow 145 tyres. Perfect offset!

The offset is 17mm, which I think is on a par for most S offset rims. Will try a rim tonight, the tyres haven't arrived yet.
What ever happens I'm not drilling holes in my car!

Are 145s okay with D1s? Don't recall ever seeing that arrangement and I would have thought it might be a bit of a stretch?Pete wrote:Better with 145 tyres and bear in mind both photos of wheels on S's I posted were of original D1s, can't vouch for the new repro ones which are different in several repects, one of which is that they don't use sleeve nuts. Interested as I have a set of D1s to fit to my 998 Cooper and haven't decided on tyres yet.
Have Falken 145s on 4.5" reverse rims at present which are fine in the dry although they are not very confidence inspiring in the wet (and that's being polite

That looks like a lovely car.
Got the tyres fitted now. Just got to collect the wheel nuts and center caps from Somerford.
