I'd much rather have a screaming full race little engine than a lazy big engine.
Put a 649 in it and a 4.3 FD. It's a mini. If you want to do any distance in it, put it on a trailer for the long drive.

Then I need a tow bar & trailer, not to mention somewhere to keep it. Not really me ! Due to being as old as the Mini I'v started to lose some of my hearing & once it's back on the road I will no doubt lose some more , even though it will be worth it !

Thanks that's an interesting article.
The point is though, it takes a hell of a lot of modifying to make the 202 'better' than the 295. If you can't do it yourself that= expensive. As they come the 295 and 206 with the 'right' chamber volume are the simplest way to go, unless you enjoy grinding dust.

As said though 295 is best standard head for the 998 with min work done
I've got 2 202s now (see my pervious thread broken one) so gonna have mine lightly modified on the cambers to same as a 295 then just a mild clean up in the ports to see how it goes be cheaper than sourcing a decent 295 theses days

Thanks Chalkie for the link to Russell Engineering , very interesting site. Are you the same Chalkie with the Downton Mk2 ?

Hey Rich - yes it is going like a cracker!
Guys you have to remember GR is down here in Oz like myself, and the 295/206 heads were already very rare to start with in these parts. For many, that makes the 202 the only option from the outset.
Interesting in parts of GR research that he's found the 295 casting does have some issues, especially with the way they got the extra port size - this is why a 202 can almost be better, more material to work with to get to a better shape.
The other issue always with the 295 is the huge chamber volume (28cc stock!) that requires a big chunk lopping off even before you start chamber work.
Having said all that, I still love my 295 on my current motor
cheers,
Jacob

turbo I would say
wil kers 998 turbo road car was fantastic, it was that good that it ALMOST convinced me to build a perversion......
