Definitely buy it. Much better unit than the 997.
My father rallied a mini in the early 60's which started as an 850, then became a 997 and then a 1071.
He said it was the best engine BMC ever made.
He sold it to buy a Cooper S 970 from Ralph Broad which then became a 1275.

good morning guys I have gone and purchased the 1070 engine this morning. I hope this was a good decision but I slept overnight and read some comments and thought this would be a good idea since I didn't have a engine unit anyways. I have taken some pictures for you to comment and judge.
can you confirm that it's a legit 1070 ?
Thanks
C

The gearbox isn't a 1070 that's for sure . Something looks a bit odd with the head stud as well ... Needs opening up to check crank and rods etc ... Ken

12g1128 is a std 4 synchro casing. It could be cooper s, might not.
Beyond that you need to check the laygear to see if it is the close ratio type, it will have a number stamped on it.
If you open the engine up the magic number is aeg171 on the crank.

noted what about the head? isnt it of a 1071? and the block? the engine came out of a mk1 1964s..i have its prefix and it matches the 1071 engine prefixes... so at the moment im really confused.but its all apart of learning.

A small update. The housing had been cracked previously so he substituted it with that of a 1275 s housing. Took some more pictures..block
Is aeg151.

Short motor and head look right, must be worth a good £3K + easily.
