Great post, I love MAB's period photos of the paddock and Chris Tyrrell's setup. I have one of his heads on my 850.

Sherpa looks cool, I saw a picture of one parked in the Goodwood paddock with period sign writing, must have been the members meeting to fit in age wise.

I wonder what happened to the data post metros?

"Austin Rover promotional video from the 1983 MG Metro Challenge, taken from VHS so not brilliant quality but well worth a look."

1986 MG Metro Challenge
"Austin Rover promotional video from the 1986 MG Metro Challenge taken from VHS so not brilliant quality, also the Phoenix Park clips are jumbled up, Qualifying mixed in with the race, most of the trips down the escape road were in qualifying as was the collision between Dave Loudoun and Billy Coleman, Dave was not too impressed with Billy using him as a brake !!!"

We used to run Sherpas too. They were a bit rubbish but we had one with a 2.0 OHC engine and an overdrive 'box which went very well. The one and probably only advantage the Shepra had over the Transit was that the Sherpas, when they got older, never really rusted structurally underneath - although they did on top. They had a very strongly built chassis which we used to joke was left over from Bullnose Morris production  I always reckoned that a Sherpa chassis would make a good basis for a "Vintage special / replica".

I believe that the N/A metro challenge cars used a Weber twin choke downdraft carb (DMTR? or similar) which I think was mounted on a cast iron manifold combined with the exhaust manifold, with twin exhaust outlets as per most Metros. There's one pops up on Ebay every so often.

This underbonnet shot I took in the 1980's of Boot Gaymer's MG Metro Challenge car may also help.

Thanks both!
Could google and find one of those manifolds on ebay sale in 2018.
The carb looks like a ICF/DCNF type as used on the Alfa's boxer engines.

Cheers
