It's one of a handful of genuine beach cars. Where are you going to get another one? Rather have that than any of the reshelled exworks cars.
Yes you could build one but that doesn't stop genuine S's fetching silly money when you can build better for a fraction of the money.

I suppose it's cheering to note that one of these record prices is actually paid by someone who just really wants the car, rather than some investor desperate for somewhere to put their money.

So yes, it's a daft sum in anybody's book, but hey, it's cheaper than wasting it, and good to see it's gone to be used and enjoyed.

It's his money at the end of the day and it matters not a tad what anyone thinks ultimately. You only live once (well depends what religious persuasion you are, let's not get into that!! ) and if he's got the wonga to spare and it butters his crumpet, good for him.

So here's the question, what car would we all buy given a £100K budget? You're allowed to spend well under the budget should you so wish, but not over!! 20 years ago (probably alot less actually) I'd have said a Ferrari Dino. No chance nowadays!! You're also allowed several alternatives and it can be somebody else's car (even if they're not for selling!! )

I'd go for:

*The Nev Trickett Minisprint racer or..

*A Beatles' Radford (probably George Harrison's before he psychedlicised it!) though it'd be touch and go whether £100K would buy a real one' ..or..

*A Routemaster bus, dress up as Blakey ( ) or..

*The Aurora BMC.

Gilbern GT (10k, not the daft monet some are asking)
Lotus Elan (Elite is too dear in this price range) (25k)
Early bay VW camper (15k)
late '60s 911 (about £30k)
Moke (12k)
Mini of some sort with what's left.....

Easy one this;

Top of the list would be a big Healey 3000 (say average price of £40k), MGA Fixed Head (say average price of £20k).
Of course I need an everyday rag - so wee trip to the local Landie dealer and I'll have a new Defender 90" (around £30k) and a Brian James Race Shuttle trailer so the classics don't get wet whilst in transit (around £6k).

That's leaving me with about 4 grand to spend tricking out the Traveller to make her perfect.
