That's crazy, you can buy that later type for £4 on amazon, apparently it's the original one with the pin that's hard to get now,

More down to the Hydrogas suspension Dean ?!!
They always say smells trigger nostalgia more than anything else, for me the whiff of a 20 year old + mini takes some beating. They should have bottled it someone would make a fortune. It doesn't work for the other sex mind,in my experience ('you've been down the garage again haven't you .... I can smell it on you !!)
Oil,petrol, rotting carpets it's a heady cocktail. Add Feu orange and some Wild Stallion aftershave(out on the pull on a Saturday night) into the mix and FFS DON'T SMOKE !!

The body is still as good as the day it left the Vizards but the engine could do with a rebuild.( this can be done for you by a local race engine builder or you can get your own - who can then learn some of the secrets that went into it.

So a nice spec 68 Downtonised car could put out 118 bhp at 7200....a couple of race spec cars I see for sale at 30k plus on fleabay purport to have up to 140 bhp.. is that possible tho I note 1 car is webberized in any event ??..!!!....my very quick car with various trick bits has 98bhp..plenty of low gear grunt but would run out of puff compared to the Top Hat masters cars flying along in top gear at 110-115 mph.. tis fascinating how much power can be got out of a good ol A series engine !!!!......foxy52

Back in the 70's we were getting 120hp with our 8 port 1400cc with a super-sprint cam on Webbers I really cant see 140 at the wheels being possible from a 5 port on 1.5 carbs or is it? I'd love to see a Dyno sheet........................

Mk1 Austin Mini-Cooper converted to Cooper ‘S’ specification when new.
"Supplied by Anstey’s Ltd in Maidstone, this wonderful example was built in August 1964 and registered on the 18th September in the same year. The certified copy of a factory record provided by the Heritage Trust confirms this example to be a matching numbers genuine Cooper. On instruction from the first owner who was not prepared to wait for a factory Cooper ‘S’ delivery changes were made to this example to replicate the ‘S’ specification. Enthusiast owned by all five former keepers the previous owner, Mr Richard Hoar went to the trouble of dating the modifications and has enjoyed many shows and events."

I entered a Fast Car magazine A series engine shootout with my home built 1450cc Mayfair which was my pride and joy at the time when I was 21 along with Spoon.450 off here with his 1450 City.
The Samantha Vizard Mini won it by the skin of its teeth from my car which came 1bhp behind it, Spoon.450's car came a close 3rd.
Must have been in about 1989.

I think this is the Fast Car article with the Vizard Mini dyno shoot out:-

Interesting Dave Vizard interview below on Turbo-Mini.com
Question 10} If you don’t already own it, what would be your dream car/cars ?
DV. I glad you said cars here so I don't have to make a confined choice. Given such a choice of say 4 cars my first would be a true touring capable 'A' Series powered Mini, next a 427 King Cobra, a hopped up crew cab Ford diesel truck for towing the racer and the latest supercharged Cadillac CTS Sports Coupe (0-60 in 3.9 seconds with a computer limited 165 mph top speed (soon fix that computer) for my wife to drive me in on cross country trips. (she is great chauffeur - fast and smooth).
The Full DV Interview is here:-

Thanks for the link Mab, that is the article, although the power chart for Martins car was misprinted ( and the correct figures and an apology printed in the next issue if I remember correctly ). That's my red C regd. city with the 13" Superlites which was only 3 or 4 years old at that time ! I can pick myself and Martin out in the colour line up too !!

A lot of them. I look at every "better than it left the factory" premium S restorations with their Newton Interiors and their part perfect windscreen wiper motors and date stamped glass and they leave me cold. They are just tarted up. For premium money, I'd want an original mostly-unrestored car.
I'd rather have something like ASBO or like ErrCooperS because they are more "honest" IMO.
Anyway, it's all gone totally silly, price wise. I'm just going to carry on as normal with mine, as if it's still a £1500 car.
