The father of a schoolfriend in the '60's had one of those A60 vans shown in the Longbridge photo. Somewhat tuned, he claimed that it had managed 100mph on the, then unrestricted, M1 . . .

My daily hack back in 2003, I'd just arrived at work... it had the full union jack on the roof when I bought it but one of my workmates removed some of the vinyl one day while I was down at Bletchley shunting stone wagons...!

Thanks - yes the Gronk has gone but then so has the yard and the old iron footbridge, a new signalbox and a large network Rail compound now stands on the site of the yard and a new footbridge replaced the old one

More than likely... parts shortage was still a problem right up to the 80’s many an apprentice hour spent going out into the fields to fit hub caps, spare wheels, even radiators followed by a water bowser...!

They are left hookers, so if the picture of the export cars at Grimsby Docks is anything to go by the hubcaps are left off to deter pilfering and are probably inside the car together with anything else that can be easily 'liberated' from the exterior in transit...

What a great forecourt! Love those early Maxis - I can't remember the last time I saw one: they are really quite cool!

I love that picture, had it as a screen saver for a while.
I think it's 1972 / 73 due to the Yardley Mclaren branding on the transporter.

Monte carlo cars leaving Nice airport 1967.
On the loading ramp is the white/black practice car (used by Aaltonen) that I've seen another photo of captioned as Bob Freeborough's car (because it carried his reg no EBD90C).
This photo seems to confirm it was a standard or near standard car borrowing his reg no for this event.
The aircraft here is a Carvair (a converted DC4). In the recent "Works Minis in Detail" book a photo captioned as a Carvair is a Bristol Freighter....
