Is it me or does this look like it has been sand blasted in a single lump?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WEBER-48IDA-C ... 1442547680

Oh, & by the way £162 for a pair of wiper blades is F*&^*ing INSANE!

No, don't think so. Screws would have been affected by blasting.

It does look like I it's been media blasted then put back together . It's a quick way to clean things up isn't it. Yes utter madness the price on the wipers and the gear lever etc . Just shows how many people are out there that are willing to pay these prices . I suppose it's the old saying when advertising something . " it's worth whatever someone's prepared to pay for it " . Mark the parts you sold just a couple of years ago for reasonable prices have now probably shot up in value . Chris really does have some quality hard to get bits . Ken

You are of course correct that all parts are worth whatever the highest bidder is prepared to pay.

However, I do genuinely wonder about the sanity of someone that is SO sad that they are prepared to pay £162 for a pair of windscreen wipers when modern alternatives that work just as well & look practically no different are easily available.

maybe it's me who just doesn't care enough about keeping it original

I suppose whatever money you put into a mini these day you would get back when/if you sell it? I spent some silly money on NOS Parts for UPR but I have a piece of mind knowing that my car is as close to the original as possible? I started off by replacing the modern radiator that was fitted with the correct 1963 coventry rad, then ended up paying £25 for a NOS washer jet that I could have got from minispares for £3.50. Part of the joy for me is trying to make the car as original as possible, for others thats not the priority. ;)

Having said that £162 for wipers. I bet Chris is over the moon :D :D :D

I noticed the IDA, I also noticed the £450 one. The sandblasted one looks like it's been fished out of a scrapyard and then given a wave with a sandblaster.

Total POS.

I am waiting for the right 48IDA to come up for ASBO.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. "sandblasted" ????...this is an original Italian sand cast Weber that has been vapour blasted
2."fished out of a scrapyard and then given a wave with a sandblaster" ???...as all the screws & other fixings show this carb has been taken apart before cleaning
3."out of a scrapyard" ??..could you please tell me where the scrapyard is that has Weber IDA's just laying around
4. "Total POS" ??..you are of course entitled to your opinion but you are most definitely wrong

Hi Chris,

Good to know that you still read the forum even if you rarely contribute nowadays.

Sorry about dis-ing your IDA, but the thing that initially caught my eye was that the trumpets had been blasted at the same time as the body. This is, I am sure you will accept is not usually a good sign.

In view of the fact that it was you who was selling it, something I didn't know when I made my original comment, I have no doubt whatsoever that it will be A OK.

I doubt very much whether the comments here would have had any affect on your sale though.

Regards,

Chris. It looks like it's been sandblasted as a single lump.

I have a scrapyard by me with all sorts of exotica (rusty and ruined) in it. Including a lea francis, a couple of old jags as well as some race escort parts (all very rusty and shagged). Nothing that anyone honest would attempt to sell on ebay.

The first thing I thought was "it's been media blasted, probably using sand". I've sandblasted enough stuff to know exactly what it looks like. I'm sure Mark is right vouching for you, but it looks like a stinker to me.

Mark ,No problem & thanks for the thumbs up.

The trumpets being steel wouldn't look like that after blasting & have in fact been painted.

Anyway I may not post much but I do look in a couple of times a week to keep up with what's going on

Thanks Chris

I'll try to keep this Brief
1. I've already explained that this original Italian sand cast Weber was vapor blasted not sandblasted.
2. I've already explained that if the carb was "sandblasted as a single lump" how do you explain the condition of all the nuts/bolts/screws etc?
3."Nothing that anyone honest would attempt to sell on ebay" & "but it looks like a stinker to me"......well I must have sold many millions of ££££'s worth of mini parts over the years & know when someone just won't listen to common sense.
So "In The Shed" if you want to make a bun fight out of this it's probably the wrong place so please contact me direct if you have any further to add on the subject!!!!

Crappily built cars probably don't impress anybody but to be fair original detailing isn't everybody's cup of tea. I've seen some original cars that have lost most of their original detailing that are thoroughly USED and enjoyed by their owners, surely that's a good thing. I've also seen huge numbers of 'flat packs' over the years with perfect detailing that rarely see the light of day. You can always detail an original car but you definately can't do it the other way round.
