another batch of panels bought from the excellent mini machine

inner wing stiffeners. oddly these dont appear in m-machine catalogue.......but are vital if the inner wings are swopped

Image

inner door post, this was bough on a whim, i may not need it, but it was cheap enough

Image

front floor - again, dont need it all, but cheap enough to buy and chop up

Image

door aparture lower repair, bough to chop up and use odd bits.

M machine will supply the inner wings with the stifner already fitted if you ask. :)

Project looks like its comingly along nicely! Its good when you get to the point where you know there can't be any more hidden rusty areas. Something you may want to do before fitting the finisher panel to the A panel, is give them both a coat of paint. At least they stand a bit more chance of against the dreaded rust!

small 'none' update.

ive ordered another floor from mini machine as im so unhappy with the way that the rh floor and sill combo went in.

50% my fault, flushed with the success of the lh (and struggeling with a seriously messed up eye - in hindsight i should have just not bothered going in the garage on my week off and done whatever normal people do when they dont have anything else to do - watch back to back buffy the vampire slayer dvds or whatever!) i didnt measure nearly as much as i should, and it was only when i 'gone to far' that i discovered my error - it all fits and measures right now, but has left the sill about 1/4 too far in, so is noticable on the seam where the lower qtr joins. the other 50% is mini machine, the bends in the floor where not right, so neither the cross member end or the companion box would fit. its a problem that they have sorted and, as always, they where honest and helpful when i rang.

once the floor comes im going to hack what ive done out and make it right, it means im going to have to redo the heel board, wheel arch and probably have to fit a full lower rear qtr.

handily, im at the point on the bentley that all my welding gear can 'come home' so i shoud be able to get cracking soon.

i actually had to walk away from the car for a bit, i was so annoyed about the floor that i think i could have easily just given up - if i had been able to drag it out the garage i might have done.

whats that saying, measure twice, cut once....... :?

Stick with it Guru, anyone who has'nt made a mistake has'nt done anything.

I look forward to a floor rebirth...

I have no idea! I went to reply (acknowledging your refreshing attitude to health and safety) and my reply appeared as being from you, in place of your original post?

it went downhill from there. at one point I managed to remove the whole thread!

I obviously haven't got to grips with the moderator control somehow - it should have been a straight forward reply!

still, as it's gone, i can only note what a fantastic video you had linked to of the late Queen mother performing reverse donuts in an early woody traveler, and who would have thought that the dali lama would have such well developed customising skills? the airbrushed metalflake mural on his pick up is very well done, though a little dubious in it's contact for a man of the cloth.

shame I managed to remove such an action packed post.......

Appologies again! if anyone wants me, I'll be standing in the corner.

i remember doing that, took me 11 hours to remove it from the floor and wheel aches,

good old nitromors helped to softern it up and make it easier to remove

I used a mixture of diesel and paraffin, this softened it enough after an hour or so to scrape it off with a paint scraper and a hand held wire brush - I just put a big sheet of plastic on the floor to collect the mess

Once the worse was off I just used some thinners and a brush to 'degrease' it and then went over the whole floor with a wire cup wheel in a grinder.

it was actually a fairly easy, pleasant job to do (but to be fair, the last chassis degrease I did was on the Bentley, which was foul, 5 litres of jizer, a can of pertrol (in joke for the fans of this forum   ) and a air powered paraffin gun, soap and a kettle - it was horrid - it took longer to clean the ramp and the floor afterwards than it did to do the mini!!

I also had 48 year old tar, under seal which is why it was a bugger to remove. I did start with an angle grinder and a wire brush but that just made it soft and spreaded it more. And a waste of time.

One good thing is I replaced the whole boot floor so I did not have to clean that off. But I did have to spend hours drilling out all the spot welds. Not sure what's better.
