That car was at The Goodwood Revival a few years ago wasn't it (see photo attached). It is a most interesting car but very expensive!
I'm quite shocked to see how poor the masking is between the 2 colours around the rear of the car in the JD photos

I love the Mk2 S - mostly for the (admittedly tenuous) Steve Marriott connection. Hasnt it been offered at auction several time over the last few years? I seem to remember it at Historics -from memory (and given the advert) I assume it never sold.
The most recent "famous owner" mini that I would have loved was Peter O'Toole's car.

That Mk2 S has been sold several times in the last ten years or so and has quite a history, I chased it a couple of times but it was always just out of reach, but at the current asking price it's taking the proverbial somewhat. Previous owner John Hammel owned it three times and worked for Steve Marriot's band Humble Pie, he drove Steve round in it sometimes. I think the last time it changed hands it went for about £45k but am happy to be corrected on that.

The 1970 Raddie with the lovely JA Pearce alloys has come up a couple of times too, one of the last Ss that Radford ever did I believe. When it first appeared in magazines in 1970 it was thought to be ordered by Ringo Starr but this is not the case. It's a marmite car for some but I'd have it in a shot at the right price (if I had the money that is!).

The ex-John Hammell W&P Mk2 S has appeared in Minimag and Miniworld in its different guises...

Snow on the way, this is still for sale, great for nipping down to the shops

With the track gear removed that should road drive on its Tyres .. then just the job to go to the shops in the summer

Auction blurb say the description is accurate.

Surf blue was discontinued in 1965 !!

Although it has "Cooper S" on the V5C the chassis number, K-A2S4-1000684 is not Cooper S. There is mention of a Heritage Certificate in one of the comments but presumably it isn't shown because that will likely have Morris Cooper 998 as the model. Caveat emptor

They forgot about the roof gutter drip rails when doing the body didn't they - and I notice it has the earlier door handles without the safety bosses which isn't right if the car is a '67. It all has an "over-restored" look to it doesn't it?

I think it's one of those, the further you dig the less glossy it appears..

Not the first time I've noticed this sort of car crop up on CC. I had a bit of a row once in the comments section with one vendor on there a while ago who was selling a car which quite evidently was not what it purported to be!

Yes, S chassis numbers were allocated in blocks and 1000684 is not from one of those blocks. One block ended @ 985*** and the next started 1011***.

Yep, he wanted over £5k for an engine with an untested head (ie probably cracked) no bore size, and no crank sizes. Good luck to him if he got it but having been stung myself in the past with an S engine off here I’d say it’s quite a gamble.

Yes indeed its a gamble, but gamble on finding another I guess, especially having the correct box, block and head together?

A lot of this stuff isn't being advertised these days either is it, but sold amongst folk like us?

It is a complete gamble without breaking it down and publishing the bearing and bore sizes etc…. it was taken off the road for some reason originally, likely the head as Pete says, but might be multiple reasons, could literally be a very expensive anchor….

A nice looking 970 S coming up at Silverstone in February. Also of note are seven Lotus Elans with famous previous owners (Peter Sellers, Ron Hickman, Rob Walker, Jochen Rindt, Keith Duckworth, Diana Rigg) all from the same collection, the "Piddington Collection". I can't find any reference to this collection online, does anyone know anything about it ?.
