Since the last update I've been to more Classic Car shows in the area, the car always gets plenty of attention!
At the beginning of June while many were at Harewood I went up to Glasgow to take part in the Thistle Run from Calderglen to Troon.
Its the first time for this car on the run so it got plenty of inspections during the day!

When we got to Troon and got parked up Sardine style the judging took place and I was lucky enough to win the prize for 'most eye catching exterior'

The prize was a nice selection box of Dodo Juice products which I'm experimenting with.
Unfortunately as we set off to leave the car cut out seconds after starting. Repeated attempts failed, it wasnt even firing, we pulled a plug off and checked for a spark, put the lead back on and still nothing? then a spectator said 'you've got petrol dripping out the back....'
Into the boot and i saw that the main fuel outlet pipe had come off the tank, this is the VERY high pressure line...so i set to emptying the boot of tools and whatnot.
The carpet was floating..
So a boot full of petrol to mop up and rapidly running out of rags i looked around for an alternative, SAND!, we're at the beach..PERFECT!
So my brother climbed over the wall to the beach, while my friend and her daughter carried mugs of sand across the esplanade to me, I started to pile it up and absorb the spillage on the ground and also filled the boot with it to soak the lake in there up..
It works great

we then borrowed a council wheelie bin to dispose of all the contaminated sand and carpets etc, popped the pipe back on, put my Jerry cans worth of fuel in as it was now empty, bootboard etc back in and off we went home

We took the A713 and 712 southwards back down to Dumfries and home. I have to say these were some of the best roads of the day, highly recommended in a mini

Fast forward to yesterday and we were at the Lakes Classic Car Show in Grasmere getting absolutely baked in the glorious sunshine. If i had a pound for every photograph taken of my car....

One of the many, many people I spoke to during the day introduced himself as Roland from Sweden with the usual 'Do you race it? question.
He then proceeded to tell me how he had bought two of the original Britax race cars off John Cooper and exported them to Sweden. Cooper had wanted £1500 each but Roland and his friend offered £1500 for the pair, JC rang him in Sweden and said ' yours was the cheekiest offer we had, and we've decided to accept it'! The cars were raced in group 2 I think he said?, 1 was destroyed and the other sold back to the UK to someone at Downton, when prompted he recalled Barry Hawkins. He also recalled visiting Jim Whitehouse at Arden Engineering and what an 'interesting' character he was
I was pretty gobsmacked to be honest!
