I’m sure that Trevor Taylor with his yellow overalls and helmet was the inspiration behind Lotus using the yellow stripe.
He notched up a lap record in his Aurora Mini at Silverstone too!

There are various theories about the Yellow stripe on Lotus, but if I remember correctly, it first appeared at Indy when they first raced there ('63?) as the Americans had a superstition about green cars (can't remember why, but it was long standing convention not to run in green) and were very uneasy about the BRG. Not sure what colour the Coopers had been the couple of years previously, maybe their stripes had been acceptable, so Lotus also went for a stripe?

The sportscar is such a cool thing, but the sharp corner between the top of the engine cover deck and the drop round the side of it is a bit harsh, isn't it? It rather jars on the eye and contrasts with an otherwise very attractive shape

Brilliant
Will you be fitting an external oil cooler Pete, as in some of the historic photos ?

My kids better not see this or they'll be using it as leverage for yet another console.
Apparently Gran Turismo is on the other one, and 'we' should definitely get one of those (i.e. I should pay for it!) so I can play driving games at Goodwood....
They are so thoughtful, my kids!

That’s the plan which means wrecking a nice original grill.

I'm sure that you'll get the detail right. As the car was initially identified with the help of the late John Kelly, I'd guess that you are being advised by the most recognised mini historians ?

I managed to pick up some nice bits over the years like the Springall wheel I’m putting back on it, some nice mag rose petals from the States which I never found the right car for but am now really glad I got (off to get restored shortly) , might have found a couple of Contour 6s that I think Anita had in it but looking for a harness, anyone recognise this type of harness?
Pete,
Is it a very early Willlans - they stopped using GQ buckles and made their own which were similar dimensions and blue - I have a photo somewhere of a set I had a few years ago...
