One quick question, should the SU carb dashpot damper be brass? And not plastic?
I was just thinking with the age of it that it probably would have had one?

Hi again,

just checked the pictures of a all original & unrestored 1963 Mini, that I know of, and it has a brass top.

But someone inhere surely know when this item changed to plastic ?

Went for a drive today, after months of neglect, and took some photos.

Stunning, so glad you managed to not only save this car but to also do such a stunning effort in bringing it back to its former glory. Hats off indeed :)

Thank you.

The combined weight of the Beach Car and the Seven is just over a ton. 570+450= 1020 kg, like a light supermini.

WOW - I've managed to (finally) read right through this thread.

Really nice car there ronnie, super rare of course. I have to say, I don't know much about these beach versions. I have seen a few photo's in books but there's been no text to say anything about them. Where they ever a production item?

Mate, you are so lucky to have found that and save it from going to heaven. Nice work, top job and fantastic result :)

Lack of information was one of the biggest hurdles of this restoration.

I only had 5 b/w period photos to work with, plus the actual car of course.

I have spent many many hours googling and emailing various people to get slivers of information.

Thankfully:
a) the car was in a sorry state but complete. Especially the chromework, bar the bumpers, was all there.
b) Jeroen along with a few very knowledgeable people in Mini Forums, including this one, gave me a lot of information about these cars that I could not find in any book.
c) I managed to track down a couple of previous owners here in Greece and retreive a lot of valuable info from them.

There were another 15 cars built around the classic mini body. One RHD prototype thaty stayed in the UK and 14 LHD ones that were sent to North America.

While researching I managed to track down a few surviving cars, so I made an unofficial register for them.

Really interesting ronnie. Your website is really nice (really well put together) and good to see that there are quite a few survivers that seem to be cared for. Yeah, getting info would have done your head in at times. Does BMHC at Gaydon have any records on them?

Exactly 3 years ago the Beach Car was sent to a scrapyard to be junked. It was hoisted onto the flatbed by ropes round the roof.

Its been quite a journey.

I think you should be really proud of how you've saved this piece of history and returned it to its former glory :)

The Beach Car is takin part in an exhibition at the Hellenic Motor Museum in Athens, named "Made in Hellas".

The exhibition is about cars made, modified, assembled in Greece, designed by Greeks or in some way related to Greeks or Greece. Obviously there is not very much to show, but it is a decent effort.

There is a strong Mini showing owing Sir Alev and his Greek roots. I was asked to loan my car , so I did. The exhibition will run untill the end of August.
