Also some of the work does not look like it is up to the standard expected these days. Bearing that in mind the estimate is a bit high and it may struggle to sell.
Looks like this did not sell as it is under offer at £9,800 (estimate was £12-14,000).

A coupe of moderns for sale at the Silverstone Supercar Fest sale. Both have interesting stories and eyewatering estimates.

First up is one of the last Cagiva Mokes. Only 74km (yes that's seventy-four kilometers) on the clock.

Second is the last Cooper S built by Coopers in Ferring. It was John Coopers wifes car.

The rest of the sale can be found here (set brain to daydream mode before opening)

As you say, some real "daydream" cars and prices there! Interesting to note that Mrs Cooper covered less than 1000 miles in her special Mini, so maybe she wasn't so keen on driving it as all that? Or maybe she was worried about taking it out in case it rusted away like so many of them did. I wonder if somebody is really prepared to pay so much for it?
Interesting also to note that Rob Hubbard is the Silverstone Auctions contact. I assume he has jumped ship from Bonhams where he was for a long time?

Indeed - not worth that amount - and not one of the final 50 Coopers off the production line I think? I always liked the Brooklands Green with grenadine Red leather Rover John Cooper LE (300 made) of which John Cooper offered an S Works conversion on an initial 25.

The following is interesting:

"Mini Cooper S Works

Year: 1999 (March)
Based on: Mini Cooper (John Cooper LE 40 Edition)
Engine: 1,380 cc
Exterior colour:
Brooklands Green
Roof: Old English White
Exterior trim: Chrome grille, door handles and bumpers
Decals/badges: Coachlines with "S works" decals. Special red-winged badges front and back.
Interior: Alloy dashboard, door cappings, door furniture, and foot pedals; leather steering wheel and gear knob
Equipment: CD player, 12-inch alloy wheels 14570R12

Production: 51, demand was so high that production increased from the original 25 (which have unique no. 1/25 edition plates on their dash glovebox). The 51st was unique with added extras as made specifically for Mrs John Cooper and sold at auction for 47,465.10 GBP at the Retromobile by Artcurial Motorcar in Paris 2016. All were converted by John Cooper Garages in Sussex from Mini John Cooper LE 40's
Options:
Jack Knight 5-speed gearbox
Sportspack

With 90 hp output from its big-valve high-compression engine, the S Works is the most powerful Cooper ever made"

It says '.....Production: 51, demand was so high that production increased from the original 25.....' Sadly, that's simply not true of the last Rover mini's of ANY type or classification. A full year after production had ceased an aerial photo of the holding facility for unsold Rover cars at Upper Heyford showed thousands of assorted unsold Rover cars (or 'cans' as a misprint in the Oxford Mail stated...) including rows and rows of unsold mini's to boot. They'd been out there in all weathers for a full year with grass growing up to the doors.

Rover were selling them off to the dealers at a loss just to get rid of them. Not easy, as the new mini was already in the shops!

Anyone with a Y or 51 registered mini now knows why the rust they encountered was so deeply ingrained before it even hit the dealers forecourt

The reference was to the John Cooper Works conversion of the standard Rover limited edition of 300 ( which dated from 1999 and was sought after). The problem with the auction listing is that it implies the car was one of the last 50 off the production line which I’m pretty certain it wasn’t - it is actually the 51st S Works conversion of the 1999 Rover John Cooper LE - albeit registered in 2001.

Both of the late Rover Coopers I had from new (1998 R plate and 2000 W plate) were shocking rusters - like a 1970s Lancia!

Coming up at H&H next month is one of those fancy Metros. One of only 26 built we have a low mileage Frazer Tickford. Seams fairly priced when you consider the price of a Radford or W&P Mini.

Agreed. I looked at the photos and somehow the car didn't look right at first glance. For that kind of money (if I had it of course) I would be looking for something pretty close to excellent/well detailed. The restoration doesn't look to have been finished. No seatbelts, no gear lever gaiter and gear lever not chromed, no A panel light switch, no bracket for the nylon bush on the door and wrong exterior door handles (pre 66) along with no window door chromes.
In the boot it doesn't look to have the spot welded tags for the breather pipe next to the right hand tank or the tags along the underside of the rear parcel shelf. Under the bonnet no heater hose and isn't that the wrong wiper motor for that age of car? And the engine number - is that correct for that car - I may be wrong but I don't think it is.

I'll go and have a lie down now I think.

The wiper motor is dated 1966 if you zoom in so definitely not correct. No fresh air ducting either. It may seem that we are nit picking but there's so much incorrect with this that it shouldn't be priced so high in my opinion. Looks a bit "thrown together" to me.
Plus they might have got the reg number correct in the description : "The history file accompanying ‘ORE 239F’ contains photographic documentation of the restoration process; some £40,000 worth of invoices of restoration expenditure; a BMIHT Heritage Certificate and a current V5C document."

Also, not much point in using nylocs if the thread doesn't reach the nylon...sloppy. The boot and the bonnet don't fit and is the lack of boot board because the spare wheel is too wide...or is it just missing? A repro chassis plated screwed on with self-tappers? And a repro engine plate too
Just been chatting to Rich about this. The annoying thing is that it passes the heritage provenance test and all that bollocks but in reality it's a bitsa and just not right. Then again...none of my friends would know any different so what the hell?

Also at Anglia they have a Dalek on offer

Calling all Yorkshire residents, Spicers of Goole have an odd ball car coming up in their auction on 2nd July.

Is it a 1967, or is it a 1974. Engine spec is interesting but it has been sitting for almost 40 years. Ideal basis for rally/hillclimb car with a low estimate. Body obviously has some filler in it at the wing seams, body number on slam panel is from a Mk3, the car is on hydro....
