First Mini I ever properly restored (and then destroyed! ) is back. Not quite the same car and I have to say I think I did a better job of the original than the ‘new’ one.

Was it island Blue in a previous life? Interior is from an Island Blue car - Tweed Grey would have a Cumulus grey/Dove grey interior not Cumulus grey/ gold brocade.....

No. It was an original Tweed Grey 65 S, single tank and had grey / grey trim when I had it. I sold the remains of the heavily crashed wreck without the engine in 1996. It’s had a new ‘base unit’ since I had it, replacement engine, extra tank and Newton grey / brocade trim. It was “restored” very badly with a later shell by the infamous Henley Classic Minis which was completed about ten years ago, it had terrible panel gaps. It’s recently been repainted again and looks better.

For those up North and over the Border Morris Leslie have a 1964 Morris Mini Traveller on offer this week. It's been hiding in a garage for a number of years but does not look too bad. Has some of the usual rot, but the wood looks good and it does not look like it has been bodged in the past. There is no estimate so one assumes that it is being sold without reserve.

Up at £5600 already, good return. Just shows it's definitely worth expanding the audience. Morris Leslie isn't a well enough known auction, definitely worth checking for the occasional bargain. I bought my ADO16 Wolseley there for a decent price. There is rarely anything "spectacular" there so you have to sift through the dross to find the gems.

So new it even has the protective plastic still on it! Detail is pretty horrible on it - lots and lots of things (engine bay and interior) that would annoy me if it were mine. Wrong mirror and I wonder if it has 1965 swivelling sunvisors (it doesn't appear to have the earlier 1964 type)....

On which note, I had a ‘64 850 in Island Blue in the 90s, how much earlier did they introduce Island Blue on 850s than Coopers? Coopers is late ‘65 isnt it.

Interesting point. Parnell suggests that Island Blue was introduced in October 1965 and he may be right but I too had a very original 1964 850 Morris Mini in the 1970s in that colour Parnell will be talking about Coopers of course and although I think it is unlikely that the colour was excluded from the Coopers for a while, I wonder if the colour was used at Cowley before Longbridge possibly? Would that explain it? It is an older BMC colour which was used on the A35 amongst others.
Colours are a very personal thing of course. I like Island Blue and I like Surf Blue but the Powder Blue interior looks quite wrong with Island Blue

At my local auction house they have a clean looking 1969 Morris Mini traveller coming up in their next auction. Priced according to the market but has an auto box which most will be put off by. Looks like it has been restored a few years ago, with it's original interior, it appears ready to go. If I ws buying I'd take a close look at the bottoms of the A-panels and check what type of sills had been fitted.
